Anthony Gordon Myrol Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2006.
A year ago, on March 3, 2005, tragedy struck on a snowy farm near the small Alberta town of Mayerthorpe.

Within minutes, four young and promising RCMP officers were cut down in a raid on a marijuana grow operation and "chop shop" dealing in stolen automobile parts. Const. Anthony Gordon, 28, Const. Peter Schiemann, 25, Const. Leo Johnston, 32, and Const. Const. Brock Myrol, 29, lost their lives in a blaze of gunfire. Gunman Jim Roszko, 46, a felon known for his hatred of police and other authority figures, took his own life.

It was the largest mass killing of police officers in Canada since the Northwest Rebellion and the depth of the tragedy was felt across North America.

You can share your thoughts and condolences by posting a note in our on-line memorial book.

Our thoughts are with the Families of the RCMP members who were killed.

Being a Members daughter, this was a hard pill to swallow, because I know that that could happen to my father at any point in his Carrer.
Duty, Service, Sacrifice.. The fallen Memebers of the RCMP, May you rest in peace.

Every time an Officer falls in the line of duty, society is diminished as a whole. We've just had four Officers in Oakland, CA shot dead, which recalled to my mind these four Mounties.

To the fallen, I have a tremendous respect for all Law Enforcement Officers, and all words fail to convey the appreciation we have for you! My thoughts and prayers are with your families, and how their lives must have changed when you left us.

Your sacrifice was not in vane, and you are remembered with respect and appreciation!

God Speed!

The heroism of these mounties will never be forgotten. My final essay of the year for school is based on heroes and I am basing it on these four officers and how much gratitude we have for them.

If we measure lives, not in time

but in unconditional love,

true friendship,

unwavering loyalty,

and a kind heart for all...

then we have learned.

To all those left behind by Anthony, Peter, Leo and Brock, we will never forget.

After 37 years in the force, our family will always be your family.

My heart goes out to all the families of these officers and the other officers killed in the line of duty.

Being related to R.C.M.P. officers and wanting to join the Force myself, it hits home each and every time an officer is hurt or killed doing the job they love.

I would like to send my condolences out to that families of these members.

Peter, Brock, Leo, and Anthony were making a difference.

I don't think that any words I could ever say would make things any better, so I'm going to keep this short.

I have thought of all of the families often during this past year. My brother, Kevin Olson, a Yellowknife Firefighter, was killed in the Line of Duty alongside his Lieutenant, Cyril Fyfe on March 17, 2005. I find comfort knowing that they all were persuing a dream they had and at least got to work at it for a while. They made the ultimate sacrifice and will forever be heros in our hearts.

Always Remembered Never Forgotten.

May they all rest in peace.

Like a lot of citizens across the country, I was deeply touched by the loss of these four young dedicated men killed in the line of duty. Shortly after this tragic event, I started wearing a black wristband created in memory of my fellow members of the RCMP. I promised myself to wear this wristband until the first anniversary of their death. After tomorrow, I won't wear it anymore but I will still remember them.

March 3, 2005 is a day that a whole nation fell silent and mourned the loss of four extraordinary young men. Though they were not known personally to us, the loss was felt in the heart of all Canadians. The men and women that protect us are true heroes each and every day.

I personally want to say thank you to Constables Gordon, Schiemann, Johnston, and Myrol for choosing a career in law enforcement. You will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

As March 3 again approaches, our prayers are with the family and friends of our fallen brothers. I hope that all Canadians will join in a celebration of the lives of these young men. It is also important to remember to thank the men and women of the RCMP, all Canadian Police Departments and our Military for protecting us day in and day out.

March 3rd, 20005 is a day that all Canadians should remember for the rest of their lives. Now, all most of us can remember is the shock and disbelief as well as the grief. Hopefully, there will come a day when our hearts will lighten and we will be able to carry out the good intentions of those fallen four. For if we do not, then their loss will have been in vain. Keep their memory alive. Look out for one another, and remember that no good deed goes un-noticed. And to the families, please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many Canadians each and every day.
