George P. Phipps

LOWELL George P. Phipps, 42, a resident of Tewksbury, formerly of Framingham, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, from complications of Huntingtons disease. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Ronald L. and Ferne I. (Fothergill) Phipps. Mr. Phipps was a graduate of Norwood High School. He was a three-time State Champion and New England Champion in wrestling. He was also inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame and received a full scholarship to Southern Illinois University. Prior to his illness, he worked for the Statewide Moving Company. He is survived by his children, Katelyn, George Jr., and Corey; his sister, Cheryl A. Sexton and her boyfriend, Mort McKenney, of Framingham. He is also survived by his niece and nephews, Joel, Chad, Scott and Robin. He was the brother of the late Carolyn M. Phipps. A memorial service will be held at a late date.
