Veronica Carey Obituary

MAYNARD Veronica C. Carey, 83, of Maynard, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the LifeCare Center of Acton. Affectionately known as "Ronnie," she was born in Maynard, a daughter of the late Alfred S. Carey Sr. and Lucella Veronica (Moore) Carey. At the age of 20, Ms. Carey enlisted in the U.S. Army and served proudly for more than 20 years in Europe, Japan and stateside, spanning the World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars. After her honorable discharge and retirement with the rank of Sergeant First Class, she was employed for a time at Raytheon and later worked part-time for local businesses. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends, and especially loved telling stories about her life in the military. She is survived by a sister, Bernadine Johnston of Maynard; and generations of nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Cahoon, Alfred S. Carey Jr., Elizabeth Mershon Albee and Thomas Carey. All are invited to visiting hours today, Aug. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Martin & Doran Funeral Home, 12 Lincoln St., Maynard (dir: www.thoughtfulguidance.com). The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 4, at 9 a.m., at St. Bridget's Church, corner of Percival and Sudbury streets, Maynard. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard.

Ms. Carey,
Maam, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army-especially during WW II and the Korean War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
