Frances Gibson Obituary

NEEDHAM Frances (Barbour) Gibson of Needham died Sept. 29, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late William McHargue Gibson (former principal trombone of Boston Symphony); dear mother of William Charles Gibson of Hanover, N.H., and Stanley Barbour Gibson and his wife, Betsey Morgan Gibson, of Framingham; sister of the late Charles Oliver Barbour Jr.; sister-in-law of Blanche Barbour of Memphis; loving grandmother of Christie Lee Gibson of Cambridge, Carolyn Diana Gibson of Atlanta and Julia Frances Gibson of Framingham. She was a graduate of Union University, Class of 1936; a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and superintendent of the youth department; member of Needham New Century Club and Needham Garden Club; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; and was an active supporter of Needham Concert Society and West Stockbridge Concert Society. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Ave., Needham, Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment services at Needham Cemetery were private. Charitable donations in the name of Frances Gibson may be made to First Baptist Church in Needham, 858 Great Plain Ave., Needham, MA 02492, or the Needham Concert Society, PO Box 721, Needham, MA 02494. We have so many wonderful memories of Fran beginning in 1984! She was always a fun neighbor, very generous, a terrific cook with a quick wit. We feel so lucky to have known her and Bill. We miss her a lot.
