Frances Gibson

NEEDHAM Frances (Barbour) Gibson of Needham died Sept. 29, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late William McHargue Gibson (former principal trombone of Boston Symphony); dear mother of William Charles Gibson of Hanover, N.H., and Stanley Barbour Gibson and his wife, Betsey Morgan Gibson, of Framingham; sister of the late Charles Oliver Barbour Jr.; sister-in-law of Blanche Barbour of Memphis; loving grandmother of Christie Lee Gibson of Cambridge, Carolyn Diana Gibson of Atlanta and Julia Frances Gibson of Framingham. She was a graduate of Union University, Class of 1936; a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and superintendent of the youth department; member of Needham New Century Club and Needham Garden Club; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; and was an active supporter of Needham Concert Society and West Stockbridge Concert Society. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Ave., Needham, Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment services at Needham Cemetery were private.
