Irene E. Holbrook

Irene E. Holbrook MILFORD Irene E. (Joslin ) Holbrook, of Milford, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Roberta, while surrounded by loving family and friends. She was the wife of Robert Holbrook, who died in 1990. Mrs. Holbrook, born on Sept. 19, 1919 in Milford, the daughter of the late Charles and Delia (Moriarty) Joslin, was a graduate of Milford High School and the Milford Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Holbrook was a longtime Milford resident and had a great passion for sewing, knitting, quilting, and cooking. She was known for her extraordinary orchid collection. She volunteered at the First Congregational Church of Milford. She thoroughly enjoyed trips with her many grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Roberta L. and her husband, Dr. Gerard Martin, of Chevy Chase, Md., and Susan H. and her husband, Steve Gartrell, of Natick, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m., in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford. Interment will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery, Vernon Street, Milford. Following interment, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshment at the First Congregational Church, Milford. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home (www.bumafuneralhome.com).
