Robert W. Holmes Sr.

MILFORD Robert W. Holmes Sr. of Milford, formerly of Dorchester, South Boston and Braintree, died Aug. 30, 2008. He was a son of the late Joseph and Louise (Deardon) Holmes. He was the beloved father of Charlene and her husband, Michael MacDonald, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Robert Holmes Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Havelock, N.C., Gregory Holmes and his wife, Janet, of Abington, Carolyn Cheney and her husband, Henry, of Milford and Laurie Jason and her husband, Gunnery Sgt. David (USMC) of New Port Richey, Fla.; cherished grandfather of Michael and Kelly MacDonald, Julie and Lisa Holmes, Eric, Adam and Ryan Holmes, Erica, Evan and Meryl Cheney and Derek and Alexandra Jason; great-grandfather of Christian Tofteroo; brother of Joseph, Walter and Charles Holmes, Rainy Fiasconaro, and the late Ruth Ryan, Helen Curtis and Evelyn Holmes. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was the loving companion of Mary Cove. A funeral will be held from The OBrien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester St., South Boston, Saturday, at 9 a.m. A funeral Mass will be held in St. Matthew and the Redeemer Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours are Friday, 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. Mr. Holmes was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW, South Boston, Post No. 561, Bethesda Masonic Lodge No. 30, Braintree.
