Martin LaRocque Obituary

TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. Martin Robert LaRocque, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, surrounded by his family. He had been a resident of the Westborough Health Care, Westborough, for a very short time. Born in Tupper Lake, on Jan. 27, 1915, he was the son of V.H. and Rose Martin LaRocque. He graduated from Holy Ghost Academy and Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, N.Y. In December 1941, he married Phyllis Shields Miller. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Rochester, where he worked for General Motors. A day was dedicated to him because he had given them the most ideas for improving production. After the war, they made their home in Tupper Lake. He worked for Martin Brothers, the Tupper Lake school system, and was in partnership with his brothers at LaRocques Department Store, until its closing in 1977. Martin always had great stories to tell and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, golfing and card playing. He is survived by a sister, Regina McGill of Tupper Lake; a daughter, Lynn Pisano and her husband, Bob, of Franklin; three grandsons, Robbie Pisano and his wife, Jill, of Franklin, Jamie Pisano and his wife, Kari, of Millville, and Derek Pisano of Franklin; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jason, Trip, Christina, and Ashley; several nieces and nephews, and a very close friend, Dick Rule and his wife, Linda, of Tupper Lake. Martin was predeceased by his wife and parents, three brothers, Leonard, Charles, and Paul, and four sisters, Sister Pius, Lucille, Beatrice and Mary. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., in St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
