Raymond Mastromatteo Obituary

Raymond A. Mastromatteo FRANKLIN Raymond A. "Musty" Mastromatteo, 78, of Dean Avenue, a lifelong Franklin resident, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick, following a brief illness. He as the husband of Anita J. (Johnson) Mastromatteo for more than 51 years. Born in Franklin, April 28, 1930, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Palladeno) Mastromatteo, he was raised and eudcated in Franklin, and was a 1948 graduate of Frnaklin High School, where he was the class president. He was active in sports in high school, where he excelled in basketball, baseball and football. A master woodworker by trade, he worked for more than 60 years for Franklin Lumber Co. on Dean Avenue in Franklin. He served in the U.S. Navy in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He attained the rank of seaman and was honorably discharged in February 1950. He was a member of St. Anthony & Columbus Benevolent Society in Frnaklin, and a former longtime member of the Sons of Italy Lodge in Franklin. He enjoyed spending time with his family, rooting for all of the Boston sports teems, cooking and a regular member of the "coffee shop" crew. He will be rembered for his loyalty, kindness, humor and generosity to all. He was also a lifetime communicant of St. Mary's Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, R. Mark Mastromatteo and his wife, Sharon, of Pasadena, Calif., and Gary A. Mastromatteo of Carver; a daughter, Gina M. Mastromatteo-Dion and her husband, Alfred, of Franklin; two sisters, Rose Dunnebier and Shirley Palermo of Franklin; three grandchildren, Brandon Gladd, Michael Mastromatteo and Sysney Dion; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Frank, Charles, Peter, Joseph and Herbert Mastromatteo. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors, Monday, at 8:15 a.m., from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., with a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, at 9 a.m. Calling hours are Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. Donations in his memory, sent to American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02301, would be appreciated.

Anita, Barbara and I were saddened greatly when we heard that Raymond had passed away. We remember him as a wonderful family man and a good husband.
