Mary Katapodis Obituary

NORFOLK Mary Katapodis, 87, of Norfolk died on Nov. 21, 2008, in Caritas-Norwood Hospital in Norwood. She was the beloved widow of the late George Katapodis, who died in 1992. Born in Lowell, on April 11, 1921, she was a loving daughter of the late Spios and Catherine Spyropoulos. She was educated in the Lowell public schools. She went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II, serving proudly at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia. She attained the rank of sergeant. A Norfolk resident since the mid 1950s, she had worked at the former Norfolk Pharmacy, and as a postal clerk in the Norfolk Post Office. She enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and liked to play bingo and board games. Mrs. Katapodis also loved to make things for family and friends by knitting and doing needlepoint. She was the loving mother of George G. Katapodis of Wrentham, and Donna E. Barnes of Medway; the dear sister of Esther Anton of Peabody and Frieda Hall of Waterbury, Conn.; and the devoted grandmother of five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There are no services at this time, and a memorial service will be planned for a later date. Interment will be in the Norfolk Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Richard Ross and the RJ Ross Funeral Home, Wrentham Centre.
