Robert Mangan Obituary

Robert Mangan EAST HAMPSTEAD, N.H. Robert A. Mangan, 78, of East Hampstead, N.H., formerly of Naples, Maine and Hopkinton, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Framingham and raised in Ashland, son of the late Francis and Catherine (Roche) Mangan, he was a graduate of Ashland High School, Class of 1949. Mr. Mangan was employed for 28 years on the assembly line and the maintenance department of the General Motors plant in Framingham. A resident of Hopkinton from 1956 until 1992, he was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, and was also active in the prison ministry at Walpole State Prison. He was a former Cub Scout leader and assistant scout master of the Hopkinton Boy Scouts. Mr. Mangan moved to Naples, Maine, following his retirement and was a 15- year resident and member of St. Josephs Parish of Bridgton, where he was active as a lector and eucharistic minister and continued his prison ministry at the Mens and Womens Prison in Windham, Maine. A member of the United Auto Workers, the American Model Airplane Association, the Knights of Columbus Council #11376 of Bridgton and Fryeburg, and the Woodville Rod and Gun Club, he enjoyed beekeeping, metal detecting, gardening and garlic growing. He was also a licensed pilot and avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and hunting. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Theresa L. (Bushey) Mangan; sons and daughter-in-law, Framingham teacher Robert A. Jr. and Cynthia Mangan of Marlborough, and Francis E. Mangan of Goffstown, N.H.; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela J. and Robert Boulter of Hampstead, N.H., Patricia A. and Leo Lepicier of Manchester, N.H., and Nancy T. and Robert Main of Hopkinton; two brothers, Francis Mangan and John Mangan of Ashland; two sisters, Norma Carulli of Holliston and Shirley Lundgren of Avon; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Rte. 121A), Plaistow, N.H. His funeral will take place Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 9:15 a.m., from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Annes Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, N.H. Burial will follow in the West Hampstead Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01840.

It is so sad to here Mr. Mangan has passed. I have many great memories of him and many funny stories that I love to tell. I will miss him and am very happy I had the great pleasure of knowing him.
