MARY LENA BOWIE-LEWIS
AGE: 81 PLAINFIELD
Mary Lena Bowie-Lewis, 81, passed away on Friday (Oct. 21, 2008) at JFK Hospital in Edison. She was born in Nansamond County, N.C., and resided in Plainfield for 50 years.
Mary was a professor of nursing at Essex County College for 15 years and former executive director of Plainfield Health Center and a nurse at Norwood Terrace. She was a former member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Carlton G. Lewis Jr. of Plainfield; son, Michael R. Bowie (Julia) of Plainfield; sisters Milcah L. Brown (Harold) and Ellen P. Smith, both of Plainfield; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Arielle, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Plainfield. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the church.
