DONALD ENGEL
AGE: 84 FORMERLY OF NEW BRUNSWICK
Donald Engel of Hopewell, NJ, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Whispering Knoll in Edison. He was 84 years old. Born in Pelham, NY, he lived in New Brunswick before moving to Hopewell 41 years ago. He was employed as controller for Suburban Transit in New Brunswick for 40 years, retiring in 1992. Mr. Engel was a member and past president of Branford Electric Railway Association operating as the Shoreline Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT, and a member of the Electric Railroaders Association of NYC. He graduated Columbia University in 1947 receiving his B.S. Degree in accounting.
He is survived by many friends and associates in the transportation industry. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Walker.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Ave. in Edison. Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Branford Electric Railway Association, 17 River St., East Haven, CT 06512-513.

Don was a dear man, whose knowledge and enthusiasm inspired others (ourselves included)to carry forward his work at the trolley museum. We're grateful he came across our path and we'll miss him.
