Barbara Johnson Obituary

Barbara Mae (Magee) Johnson, 82 PALA INDIAN RESERVATION -- Barbara Mae (Magee) Johnson died of pulmonary fibrosis on Saturday, September 11, 2010 She was born in the Soboba Indian Hospital in California on August 31, 1928, and grew up on the Pala Indian Reservation in northern San Diego County. She graduated from high school in Fallbrook, Calif in 1947. In November, 1950, she married Harmon Johnson, who was in the Air Force at the time, and went to live in Albuquerque, N.M. for the duration of his assignment. They then moved to the Santa Clara-San Jose area where they lived for 42 years. For the last dozen years, she has resided in Coeur d'Alene, ID. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Magee and Delfreda Trujillo Magee; her brother, Eugene Magee; and her daughter, Melanie Caputo. She leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years, Harmon Johnson; seven children, sons: Gordon, Paul, Kenneth, Geoffrey, Ben; and daughters: Debra Wirth and Bonnie King; 24 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Barbara's life was guided by two abiding faiths -- faith in God, and faith in family. She was a devoted parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls, lending her soprano voice to the church choir for as long as she could negotiate the steps to the choir loft. Her devotion to family could be tallied in the number of Band-Aids applied to scraped knees, the number of green beans cleaned for big family dinners, the number of hours spent on cold bleacher seats watching grandchildren play sports. She grew up with sports, played softball in her youth, and was elected president of the Girl's Athletic Club at Fallbrook High. She truly enjoyed all kinds of athletic competition, and remained a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49'ers. Most importantly, she looked for the good in people, for the upbeat in life, for laughter in even the direst of circumstances. A Sung Requiem Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 16, in Post Falls, Idaho. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2010, at Pala Indian Reservation Cemetery in Pala, California. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Hospice of North Idaho. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

We saw a picture in the paper once which showed two angels talking together excitedly. They were looking down to Earth as Mrs. Roosevelt was ascending to Heaven. The angles were so excited, and exclaimed to each other, "She is coming! She is coming!" How wonderful is the reward of the good and kind.
We treasure the picture in our heart of those who are waiting and reaching out in such great joy to hold again loved ones who are coming.

She always had a comforting word and raised my spirits when I was down. We laughed together (especially at choir practice)and sang together, depending on one another to hit the high notes. She was like a mother and a sister to me. Thank you God for giving me such a good friend. I look forward to the day that we will see each other again.

The cross you carried was heavy, but still you managed a smile.....even under it's weight, the hills of life took a while.....you never gave up and held that cross until the end....those wooden beams never willing to bend......the time has come to let your cross go.....the time has to come to leave it here below.....let the angels guide you to where you need to be....our dear dear friend, you are finally free....~T.
