James Driscoll Obituary

James F. Driscoll, Jr., 82 CARLSBAD -- James F. Driscoll Jr. passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on September 19, 1927 to parents, James F. and Lavon Driscoll, Sr. Beloved husband of Margaret M. Driscoll and the late Loretto B. Driscoll. Father of James F. Driscoll, III, Michael Driscoll, Kathy (John) Langton, Mark (Bobbi) Driscoll, Reverend Patrick Driscoll, Amy Colleen (Dan) Klapp, Tracy (Philip) Abbott. Grandfather to 27 children; and Great- grandfather to two children. Uncle & friend. Jim grew up in Chicago and attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S Air Force where he served as a jet mechanic instructor at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Loretto Rose Byrne, also from Chicago and moved to California where he began his aerospace career in San Diego, Calif., with Convair/General Dynamics. In 1964, Jim and Loretto and their then six children moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., where they remained for 30 years. As an aerospace engineer, Jim worked for McDonnell Douglas, Raytheon, Aero Spacelines, Tracor Aviation, Direct Air Aviation and Able Engineering from where he retired in 1994. He was an avid private pilot, who loved working on his own airplane and enjoyed being part of aviation even after his retirement. In 1994, Jim married Margaret Moore of Encinitas, Calif., where they lived for three years before moving to Carlsbad, Calif. Services: Rosary at 6 p.m. Friday night, September 17th, at Welch-Ryce-Haider Chapel, Santa Barbara. Funeral Mass: Saturday, September 18 at 9:30a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 17 East Sola Street, Santa Barbara. Graveside service: at Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara.
