Mary Irene Barfield

Mary Irene Barfield, 93 09/09/1917 ~ 09/11/2010 OCEANSIDE -- Our beloved mother and Nana was called home by the Lord on Saturday, September 11, 2010. She celebrated her 93rd birthday with a family party featuring all of her favorite foods just two days before she passed. Mary was born in Stafford, Va. and raised in Stafford and Prince William County, Va. She married Woodrow Barfield (Sgt.Maj. U.S.M.C. retired) in 1948 and began the adventure of being a military wife and raising her four adoring children. She had resided in Oceanside, Calif. since 1960. She joins her loving husband, Woodrow; and her beautiful daughter, Karen Davies Wooten in heaven. Also preceding her in death are two sisters, her brother and one grandchild. She is survived by three children, Sandra Davies Heidrich of Dallas, Texas, Linda Barfield Wilkinson of Vista, and Woody Barfield Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C. She also leaves 11 grandchildren who loved their Nana with all their hearts, and 16 great-grandchildren. Mary was a wonderful cook who devoted her life to her children and family and always put them first. We will miss her everyday until we're together again. We would like to thank Alicia, her nurse at Carlsbad By The Sea who she called her "special angel" because of the loving and compassionate care she gave her.
