Hannah--I wrote this poem a few days ago,and you contine to astound me with your growth, understanding and faith. Although I know what a very strong woman you are- You know I attribute so much of who you are and how you are growing to your amazing husband that lights the path and leads the way to a more sacred place than you have ever been before. He is truly the example of what our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do for all of us. They love, console and care and yet guide us to greater growth and understanding. You both have chosen that courageous path and we are all watching and seeing that it can be done, and hoping that we can follow the same pattern as we face our current and future trials.
Love, Mom

Hannah Lee, Hannah Lee, Hannah Lee Lee Lee
My dear, sweet little girl.
Where have all of the years gone to
now that your life is so deeply changed?
You have grown and changed and developed yourself
into a beautiful woman that is far beyond her years.
Are you still mine?
When yet so small, I saw my reflection in you.
Was that just hopes and visions?
So much of you has changed.
My reflection now is just a shadow,
casting itself in yesterdays.
Your stature is so far more developed than mine.
And even though I know I can’t take credit for so much of it,
I want to.
I want to say—
Hey, I can remember when my little“Faces”
would get upset and pout over the smallest things.
And it was I that nudged her past such frail insecurities.
It was I that made her be stronger than she wanted or believed she could be.
Why now—after the picture is matted do I feel I have had so little to do with
this incredible strength of a woman
who seems to bear no resemblance to my
melancholy, brooding self?
It is she now that shows a reflection that surpasses mine.
Can I model this reflection?
Can I stay abreast with this growing woman
so that I can still call her my friend?
Will she rise too far above me and forget about me?
Please daughter, don’t forget those first faltering steps
that I steadied you on.
Please daughter, don’t forget that a foundation,
though only a rough obscure slab--
still continues to steady the rising tower of strength?
...fair, fair, and golden hair"-Longing to be near "our" angel with golden hair forever in lands where there is sorrowing never.

Emma Mae:
I look at this picture of you every day: Happy, joyful, playful Emma. As Hannah says: "La la Emma."
I want you to know that we are trying to carry on with our lives since you have left us. We recognise and have counted the many, many kind tender mercies that have happened to all of us who are aware of and miss you so.
I personally have developed a deeper faith in Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ than ever before. I feel that your good mother Hannah's, and father, Spencer's souls are being tried in the refiner's fire and they will emerge more puried, understanding, and stronger.
I know now my faith is built upon a rock and is not crashing around me in the strength of a storm, as if it had been built upon sand. Especially when I see my children re-teach me these things.
We are watching your parents and all around them, with us, grow in the understanding of the Gospel and the meaning of life and death on this earth since you and your little cousins Audrey and Ethan have come and left us.
Your lives were and are meaningful and useful for us this side of the veil. I believe with all my heart that your's and their lives (and those that may yet come) here to us were a mission to teach us great truths, and a sacred trust for us to cherish and share with others.
I shall never forget you Emma Mae Hubbard. That sweet, kind smile and demeanor of your's has had a profound impact on my life to be a better husband, father, grandfather, and man. At least a kinder and gentler person, like you!
I love you Emma Mae.
So until that happy, glorious day when we shall meet again dear little friend and daughter, I'll be working hard to see you then.......
your Grandad,
Podge

Our dear Hannah and Spencer: We love you both so very much and want you to know our prayers are with you night and day. We can only imagine what you are going through and our hearts ache for you. Miss Emma was truly a gift of God, an angel on earth. We pray her sweet presence will be forever felt in your home and you will know she blesses your lives from the other side. Although Emma was only nearly two years, she was so spiritually much more mature than us all--a completely holy and pure daughter of God. Emma was prepared before the foundation of this world to fulfill a divine mission that reaches before and beyond this short earth life. Miss Emma, a refreshing breath of heaven will always be your daughter now and for all eternity. We love you and our prayers will continue for your peace and comfort.

Dear Hannah and Spencer, We were so sad to hear of Emma's death. Goodbyes are always hard, and especially so after such a short time. I've often wondered how those without the knowledge of our Father's plan are able to cope in these situations. Out thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.

Hannah and Spencer, To have a child leave this temporary earthly home and go home to the Lord so soon; is a heartache. But the love and joy she has left for those who cared for her and loved her so, will forever be with you both. Somehow we are given the strength to go on. What a comfort to know that your little angel has touched so many people ih her short life. Our prayers and thoughts have been for your entire family. As one life leaves feel the joy and peace of a new life within you. May the Lord give you his protective peace.

Spencer and Hannah,
Our hearts weep but at once rejoice as we ponder the plan of salvation and realize that our sweet baby angel is wrapped in the arms of His eternal love. Thanks be to God for the gift of Emma Mae Hubbard, our first grandchild. We long to hear her calling, once again, for "Nana and Papa", "JJ and Conney". Hold tight to each other. We love you so.

I don't know of any words or service I could offer you that would in any way alleviate the sting of losing your little Emma, but I will be praying for your family to have the strength to remain faithful and praying that you will always know and feel the love our Heavenly Father has for both of you. Dear Hannah and Spencer,
"Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me." Matthew 18:4-5
Spencer and Hannah you were truly blessed with a little angel, and we all are very grateful for your unselfishness in allowing her to be part of our lives. Emma was truly perfect and set a great example for all of us to know how we should live our lives. Audrey and Emma were to good for this world and are now engaged in a greater work. Many are being touched by their spirit and the power of their love in the spirit world. Emma will always be your daughter and you both will always be her parents. Her spirit will guide you throughout your lives. We love you both so much. We are comforted to know that Audrey has an eternal freind by her side, I hope this truth brings you comfort as well.

Hannah and Spencer,
I am so sorry to hear of this. It breaks my heart and I want you to know hoe much I love you and that I am thinking of you. I found this poem and fell in love with it.
No stain was on her little heart,
Sin had not entered there,
And, innocent, slept sweetly on,
That pale, white brow so fair.
She was too pure for this cold earth,
To beautiful to stay,
And so God's holy angel bore
Our darling one away.

Hannah and Spencer,
We have changed forever from knowing Emma and having had this experience with you two. I remember a specific time when we all went camping together in Arizona. Everyone was busy packing up to leave and Emma was just sitting alone in the dirt waiting until her Mom was done. She soon started to get fussy and all I had to give her to help comfort her was some tent poles I had just taken off the tent I was taking down. She was so happy to have those tent poles to play with and gave me the biggest smile. It didn't take much to please Emma and she was so content with the simplest of things. I love her and will miss her dearly.

Hannah and Spencer, You have both been in our families thoughts and prayers. I too thought about Elder Christopherson's words on "life will not be long enough", and thought of you both. Always remember that. We love you. Kelly and Family

Dear Hannah and Spencer,
I just finished watching the Saturday morning session of General Conference and noticed that I had been taking notes with a pen that has printed on it "Spencer and Hannah Hubbard 2007". I have been thinking of and praying for you both these last two weeks. As I listened to Elder Christofferson's words, I thought of your dear Emma. He said, "Life will be long enough for each spirit." You must miss your sweet daughter deeply but hopefully Elder Christofferson's words can bring you some peace and comfort.
With loving thoughts,

Emma's Temeku
Jim (Grandpa "Podge") Geyer
September 29, 2010
"Emma's Temeku"
Hannah:
The four of us (Mom, Alex, you and I) moved to Temecula, CA nine years ago. The name Temecula came from the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, who believe their ancestors have lived in the Temecula area for more than 10,000 years. In their beliefs, life on earth began in the Temecula Valley. They call it, "Exva Temeeku", the place of the union of Sky— father, and Earth— mother ("Tuukumit'pi Tamaayowit"). The Temecula Indians ("Temeekuyam") lived at "Temeekunga"— "the place of the sun".
Other interpretations of the name, "Temecula", include "The Sun That Shines Through The Mist or the Clouds" or "Where the sun breaks through the mist (clouds)". Temecula is the only city in California to still retain its original Indian name.
I have never seen a "temeku" here in Temecula. But we saw one together in Opelika, Alabama driving with you, two days after Emma's funeral. You spotted it first then we all (several family members with us)in amazement took several pictures.
It was magnificent! One huge dark cloud by itself with the sun behind it and a luminous corona of sunshine rays projecting out in various directions around its perimeter. A "Temeku". It's where we get the saying "every dark cloud has a silver lining."
So we had to travel across the country to be in the right place at the right time to see this symbol and reminder that through the darkness and pain, ther will be a brighter day.
Such is what Emma would want for us all to do.
Therefore, we can call this beautiful natural tender mercy from the Lord (...and Emma) to us:
"Emma's Temeku"

"Emma's Temeku"
--Hannah & Spencer:
We have lived in Temecula, CA for over 9 years now (California for 22 years). The city is named after local Pechanga Indian mythology, where they believe life on earth began in the Temecula Valley. They call it, "Exva Temeeku", the place of the union of Sky— father, and Earth— mother ("Tuukumit'pi Tamaayowit"). The Temecula Indians ("Temeekuyam") lived at "Temeekunga"— "the place of the sun".
Other popular interpretations of the name, Temecula, include "The Sun That Shines Through The Mist" or "Where the sun breaks through the mist". Temecula is the only city in California to still retain its original Indian name.
I have heard of "temekus" for years but have not seen an individual one here. We had to come all the way to Auburn, AL to be with you, Spencer, and Emma. Two days after Emma's funeral we were driving in Auburn (with you and other family members)and saw a most magnificent and beautiful Temeku. We were in the right place at the right time to see it. It was a large dark cloud in the western sky with a silver lining "corona" surrounding it with beautiful rays of sunshine beams in all directions out from it's perimeter. Several of us family saw it and were amazed, taking several pictures of it.
It reminded me of what I have always said (and believed) for years: "Every dark cloud has a silver lining". I believe it was a reminder for us to keep striving through the pain for there WILL be a brighter day. We have to believe that every day.
I'm calling it "Emma's Temeku."
We had to travel clear across the country and be there with you at that time to see such a beautiful sign (symbol) and reminder of hope. It was another tender mercy from the Lord... and Emma.
Let us never forget Emma and how she made all so happy around her.

Hannah, I am trying so hard to be strong, but the pictures of the sweet, little time we had with Emma yanks at my heart strings. She was such a beautiful, perfect joy every time I got to be with her. My heart skipped a beat each time I thought of seeing her in March. Time will always be the enemy, for too much of it has already passed when I am so far away, and now that will be the case for everyone. Like being grateful for Spencer's family for being so near, I am now grateful for the many family members that now surround her and can enjoy all that we had. I pray thay love her even more than our mortal limitations have allowed, and she will know how deeply we all loved her. Emma, I love you so and can't wait to be with you again. You have forever changed my life. I will know you are watching and will try so hard to be good and strong to take care of your mother and make you proud of me as your grandmother. Love Grandma Geyer

Dear Spencer and Hannah, Don & I are so very sorry about Emma. I will always remember her eyes. They looked so big and bright. I think that the last time we saw her was when Justin took her out of Sacrament Meeting one Sunday and I had to turn around and look at her because I had been watching her and only saw her from the back. When I turned around that is all I could see, was those big eyes looking over Justin's shoulder. Our love and prayers for you and your families. Don and Abbey Schluter

Spencer and Hannah,
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Hanna was a beautiful and precious little girl. Above the sadness take comfort in the know that you are both wonderful parents and her short time on earth was filled with love. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers.
