Ramon C. Castro SOLANA BEACH -- Ramon C. Castro was born September 26, 1918 in Esparaza, Sonara, Mexico, and passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Solana Beach, Calif. Ramon "Ray" was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and will be missed immensely. Ramon was one of the unfortunate young men of his era that began his life of work at the age of eight years old. Even though he was unable to finish grade school, he became a self-educated man and had very strong work ethic. He owned his own business and was a very successful landscaper/ gardener for 60 years. He became a U.S. citizen and proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Ramon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Connie P. Castro; and his eldest son, Raymond Castro, Jr. He is survived by his son, Robert V. (Lydia) Castro; and daughter, Mary Helen (Randy) Simpson. He has ten grandchildren, Lorraine Mesker, Bonnie Bryant, Arlene Austin, Juliana Parks, Natalie Parks, Dolores Harris, Rachel Edsall, Deanna Simpson, David Simpson, and Andrew Simpson; and 20 great-grandchildren. His surviving sisters and brother are Canda Amador, Beatrice Gonzales, Trini Falan, and Frank Castro. Visitation and Rosary will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, at St. James Catholic Church in Solana Beach, Calif. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 23, also at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow immediately at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, Calif.
