Lois Egdahl Obituary

Lois Jean Egdahl CARLSBAD -- Lois Jean Egdahl passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in Carlsbad. Lois was born July 2, 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Genamae and Russell Hopkins and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Jack Hopkins. She grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, attended Eau Claire public schools and the University of Minnesota, and modeled professionally before marrying the love of her life, John, in 1948 after John graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Lois and John lived in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota, followed by three years in Germany while John was stationed in the Army at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt. They then moved to San Francisco where they lived for one year while John was stationed at Letterman General Hospital. After moving to Carlsbad in 1954, Lois discovered a piece of property that she fell in love with and which she insisted they purchase in order to create a beautiful home for her family. Their happiness and well being was always her main concern and she loved her role as a homemaker for 62 years. Her husband, John, was one of the founding physicians of Mission Park Medical Center and he practiced medicine in Oceanside for 30 years. Lois is survived by her husband, John; four daughters and nine grandchildren: Laura Pahl(Bruce), their children Molli and Adam; Nancy Ivan (Tom), their daughters Keli (Galindo) and Kaylene (Aballi); Jonnie Schmidt, her sons John, Chris and Eric; and Jeanne Campbell (Mickey), and their children Kristin and Michael. In addition, she is survived by five great- grandchildren: Hailey, Casey, Caleb, Dylan and Juan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Michael, and her great-granddaughter, Maya. Lois touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her love, warmth, and kindness. Her desire was to be remembered as a "lady" and that she will be! At her request, no services are planned. Uncle John, my wonderful cousins, and their families,

You all have been in my thoughts....
for these last two weeks... as you adjust to life without Aunt Loie, and for all the weeks and months as you cared for her before her death.

How wonderful that she had all of you by her side! How many people get the opportunity to leave this earthly life with all of their loved ones standing around them?!

When I think of Aunt Loie....my beloved Aunt and Godmother.... I think of LOVE!
I would totally expect if I looked up the word love in the dictionary, one of the definitions would be...
Lois Jean Egdahl!
She was so wonderfully MUSHY!! I loved it! And I loved how she loved all of you/us.

I am humbled and honored to have known and been related to this lovely lady.

I am especially grateful for our phone "conversation" the day before she died. Sometimes we don't realize how something that seems so simple can have such an impact on us.

Even though I am miles away, I am with you in spirit, in grief (for all of us) and in joy (for her relief)!

To all of you...hugs, kisses, and
"Lovin you lots and lots"!

Your niece and cousin,
Alice Egdahl Harlow

Lois was such a joy to Tina and me through the years we were privileged to know her. Equally beautiful was her love affair with John, a model husband and dad who always had Lois on a pedestal. We're blessed by remembering the happy times we shared. Our prayers and sympathy go out to your entire family.
