Lillian Thompson Obituary

Lillian Ellen Thompson OCEANSIDE -- Lillian Ellen Thompson passed away peacefully in Carlsbad on Saturday, October 2, 2010 with family by her side. She was born on March 4, 1925 in McCaskill, Arkansas to Bill and Josie Ball. Lillian graduated from Blevins High School in Arkansas and moved to Oceanside, Calif., in 1950, where she met and married her husband of 60 years, William (Tommy) Thompson. She is survived by her husband, Tommy; sisters, Johnnie and Clarice; daughter, Debbie and husband, Walt; sons, Bill and wife, Gloria, Roger and wife, Pam, and Lyle and wife, Wendy; beloved grandkids, Lauren, Brian, Billy, Hannah, Madeline, Erik, and Bubby; and great-grandson, Samuel. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, sisters, Floy and Mickey. Lillian was passionate about her family and spent her life serving them and others. She was also a wonderfully religious woman, tirelessly dedicated to the Lord's work as a correspondence teacher with the World Bible School and local churches of Christ. A gifted pianist and soprano, she instilled the love of music in her family and forever filled the living room with melody. We will celebrate Lillian's life at 10 a.m., on Thursday, October 7, at Oceanside Mortuary in Oceanside. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif. Dear Deb and Lil´s family,
Can it be that time goes so quickly and we are in the midst of this wretched pandemic? Tom and I are in MA on Cape Cod visiting his sisters and yet, I stop to think of you and your precious mother, whom I loved dearly. Again, I am so grateful for my family and that my mother made it possible for me to know my daddy´s family and all the beautiful Ball sisters. As I said before, Lil was so full of life and seemed to cling to Rowland and I think she saw my daddy in him. She was so special to all of us. She is someone to easy to remember and love.
Your cousin,
Brenda

Lillian was one of the four beautiful Ball girls who were far away in California but always came home to Arkansas to visit us when I was a little girl. I remember that Lil was drawn to my brother Rowland, and he was a little cotton top and was called Bud Rowland. She seemed to favor him and I think it was because she looked at him and thought of my dad. I was always told that everyone loved my dad. He died in World War II and it was very difficult for all the family. He was Lils fathers younger brother. The times I remember with Lil were after he married Tommy and had her adorable children. I was so thrilled when her daughter Deb chose to come to Harding College here in Arkansas. It meant we would see Lil and Tommy more because they would come to Arkansas to come to see their daughter and we would get to see them, too. My daddys brothers and sisters were special to us. My mother made certain that we were close to them. Uncle Bill and Aunt Josie, Lils parents, were a big part of our lives especially when we were young. I could go and and on talking about my Ball relatives, but I will leave room for other people to remember lovely Lil.

Dear Tommy, Debbie, Bill, Roger, Lyle,
It is a comfort to know that Lil died peacefully and that you were with her at that moment. I am so sorry to be sending only a message through the internet, but Tom and I are in Moab, UT heading westward and I am unable to do much more. I only have an address for you, Tommy. I will write something more proper when I am home and can think. I can say now, however, that I have only the fondest memories of Lil. She made me laugh. She was a great part of my childhood, and I regret that I was not with her more in my adult life. You are all blessed to have had her these many years. I will keep you deeply in my heart and always with love.

Lillian was a shining example of a devout Christian. She was a friend to me over the years for about as long as I can remember. Lillian always greeted me with a kind smile and cheerful voice. I will miss but never forget her. My love, sympathy and prayers are with her wonderful & loving family.
