Frederick Bonamici Obituary

Frederick Bonamici 12/28/1922 ~ 10/01/2010 CARLSBAD-- Survived by his love for the last eight years, Peggy Calhoun; sister, Norma Cipolla; beloved father, of Allegra Ernst (John), Tara Bonamici, Leanna Bonamici, Douglas F. Bonamici (Jane), and Christopher K. Bonamici (Becky). Grandfather of Chlo Elizabeth Bonamici. Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Grace Oonah (Dougher) Bonamici. Fred graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Music, thereafter serving 36 months active duty in the South Pacific during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Prairie. His love of music infused his life and fostered a life-long involvement with, and support of, the arts. A licensed California Real Estate Broker for nearly 50 years, Fred supported his family while engaging his creative interests, managing, producing, and often performing in musical enterprises. Among his professional accomplishments are the development of Portola Country Club, in Palm Desert, Calif., Keltone Records, Sound City - a top-tier recording studio in Van Nuys, California, and more recently, Casablanca Studios (film and television production), in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. Fred's continuing sense of duty to his community led to the publication in 2005 of his book Reciprocal Support Plan describing his version of a sensible micro-economic lending program - a program he not only preached, but practiced. Born into humble circumstances, his simple dream - helping others achieve economic independence - conveyed his profound gratitude for the opportunities afforded by his parent's adopted nation. Fred's wit, charm and enthusiasm for humor - even a good pun - brought joy to all who knew him. His honest, thoughtful and humble approach to life earned our respect. The family name Bonamici translates to Good Friend.... and that, he was. His ashes will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on December 28, 2010 - in celebration of his life on what would have been his 88th birthday. We love you and miss you, Dad. Dad was a truly nice guy. He appreciated everything anyone did or even tried to do; any kindness or compassion shown; any attempt to be artistic. He never saw anything bad in anyone. He would be so pleased at the things you've all written here.Thank you all.

I loved Fred, he had away about him...
hard to describe, as many of you know.
I know him because he was the father of Allegra (my brother John's wife) & all of his fine children. We all know about his love of music & his great sense of humor. To me- he observed life as it unfolded around him, never missing a beat for a shot of humor or interest in your life. I was fortunate to spend time with him during the holidays at John & Allegra's, or stop by & see him & Peggy (across the street from Len & Joanne's home). We also worked together on is logo design for Casablanca Studios & some clip art & illustrations for his book. I always enjoyed the time
we spend together... what a kind, smart, gentle man.
My family and I will miss him.
Our Love goes out to all the family.
