Marie Brimner Obituary

Marie Rose (Nichols) Brimner, 83 SAN MARCOS -- Mrs. Marie Brimner peacefully went home to the Lord on Monday, October 4, 2010 at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Lakewood, shortly after an unanticipated diagnosis of cancer. Marie was born December 29, 1926 in Torrington, CT, the third daughter of the late George and Mary (Najimy) Nichols. She had a distinguished 30 year career with the US Postal Service in El Cajon, where she lived for 26 years, before moving to San Marcos and retiring a few years later. Always the encourager, Marie loved to spend time with her children and their families, and was blessed with the time spent with her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A superb Lebanese cook, she very much enjoyed cooking, and expressed her love for her family and friends by bestowing upon them many delicious meals and treats. She was sought-after by many for cooking lessons. She also enjoyed drawing, writing poetry, and for a time became reacquainted with the violin. Marie leaves behind her beloved son, John and daughter-in-law, Barbara; and daughter, Suzanne; six grandchildren, Chris, David, Allison, Stephanie, Magdalena, and Emily; and two great-grandsons, Caleb and Samuel. She is also survived by three sisters, Margaret, Dorothy, and Edith; her brother, Joe; brothers-in-law, Ralph and Gene; and sister-in-law, Jeanette. She also leaves behind extended family, Wayne and Larry, the sons of her late husband, George F. Brimner; step-daughter-in-law, Pat; grandson, Steve and his spouse, Sharen; four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jillian, Cassidy, and Carson; a great-great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, and a brother-in law. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2009; and by her brother, Alfred in 1923. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, October 15, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, 1315 South Santa Fe Ave., Vista. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. How to begin...

Marie was our neighbor for over 25 years and her late husband, Fred, for over 20 years. Marie and I randomly prepared and shared meals, movies and visits with each other as often as we could.

I will never see a hummingbird (her favorite) without thinking of her.

We took care of one another and she called us her angels. We felt the same way about her - she was our "angel next door".

Knowing she is in God's hands is comforting but I know we will always miss her being right across the yard.

To Marie's Family - I just want you to know how grateful I am to have known Marie for the short time that I did. I had the honor of working with her recently as her Physical Therapist, and am so saddened to read in todays paper of her passing. She was truly a delight - always eager and willing to do the right thing. Her goal was to remain independent and self sufficient, and I tried to help her do that. May God Bless all of you - and thank you for sharing such a beautiful lady. Barbara McMurdo PT
