Leslie Larrabee Obituary

Leslie Edith Osborne Larrabee CARDIFF-BY THE SEA -- Leslie Edith Osborne Larrabee passed away at her home in Cardiff-by-the Sea, Calif., on Friday, August 13, 2010, less than two months from her 97th birthday. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on October 8, 1918 to Robert Earle Osborne and Edith McLean Osborne. Leslie graduated from the University of Alabama in 1937 and received her teacher's license for Elementary Education after attending Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. She taught Elementary Education for 16 years. Music and singing were an important part of her life, from playing Gilbert and Sullivan leading roles at the University of Alabama to singing in church choirs. In 1940, Leslie married Bruce McKay Larrabee, a civil engineer and land surveyor, and had been married 47 years when Bruce died in 1987. Leslie had been a member of St. Andrews the Apostle Episcopal Church in Encinitas, Calif., since 1978. Leslie was predeceased by her sister, Jean Osborne Gannon; and brother, Robert Earle Osborne, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Lucy E. Larrabee; and by Bruce, Jr., Bruce III, Chad, Cindy, Donna, Jean, John, Kay, Leslie, and Robert. A service and fundraiser for Elizabeth Hospice, Encinitas, is being planned at a date to be announced.
