Jack deBruin Obituary

Jack Peter deBruin OCEANSIDE -- Born May 6, 1923 in The Hague, The Netherlands, Jack passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010. He is survived by Karl and Patti Kester of Minnesota, Lucie deBruin of Ottawa, Canada, Stephanie Schiszik of Illinois, Max and Joan deBruin of Holland, and many friends. His wife, Rosamund deBruin, preceded him in death. Jack loved photography in all aspects. In The Netherlands, he had a portrait studio, also had many titles and specialty awards given to him: in 1945~ Honorable mention from the Dutch government for participation in his resistance during WWII. He also had a portrait studio in The Hague from 1948 to 1950. In 1969, he wrote a paper on First Course in Basic Medical Photography at Chicago Medical School. Later, he taught the course at Chicago Medical School. Jack spent much of his life as a Medical Photographer and also an accredited Press Photographer. He also was a photographer for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1957, Jack migrated to the U.S. and accepted a position of Director of Medical Illustration, Audio-Visual and Photography at the Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. He also served as an Adjunct Professor in Bio-Medical Illustration at the University of Illinois. Jack joined the Masonic Lodge in 1961 in Wilmette Lodge # 931 in Illinois, and was Master of Lodge in 1972. He was a life member in many Masonic organizations. He is a dual member of Oceanside-SanDieguito Lodge in Oceanside, Calif. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 23, at the Oceanside San Dieguito Lodge, 511 Eucalyptus St., Oceanside, Calif. Burial will be at sea at a later date.
