Jon Pflueger Obituary

Jon K. Pflueger, 61 ESCONDIDO -- On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, Jon K. Pflueger lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born December 23, 1948 in San Angelo, Texas. After graduating from Clairemont High School, he joined the US Navy, following in his father's footsteps. Jon served during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he married his long time love, Lynda. This year they celebrated their 39th anniversary. In 1988, Jon founded his own business, Valley Chain & Gear, Inc. His business was a reflection of Jon's personality: he provided old fashioned customer service and hospitality to all his customers. His legacy will be continued by his loyal staff and daughter, Karen. Jon loved to do many things; most of all was spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Pflueger of Escondido, Calif.; his daughter, Karen Day and son-in-law, Jeff Day of Escondido; his sisters, Joy McMinn of Wynne, Ark., and Donna Souza of El Cajon, Calif.; and his nephew, Brian Souza of Santee, Calif. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 13, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, Escondido. 760-745-2541 As an alternative to flowers, you may donate on Jon's behalf to the Escondido Humane Society or San Diego Hospice Foundation. Jon was my cousin, but because we lived thousands of miles apart most of our lives, we saw very little of each other. The moments we did share were treasured and I learned to love the gentle and kind man he was. We had some time recently to rebond and say goodbye. I wish I'd been able to know him better but I know he's in good hands and at peace. I'm proud to claim him as family. - Melva Pfluger Miller

I had an issue with my power equipment and a friend recommended that I go down the street to Jon's business. They treated me very well there, very cordial and friendly and really knew a lot about my particular needs. Hi business stands out in my mind as an old-fashioned (in terms of good service) business that are growing fewer by the day.

The business has a lot of character and so did Mr. Pflueger.

For as long as I knew Jon he had an Antique Tractor Calender at his desk and one available for clients. His preference for and old tractor now seems symbolic for his old fashion style as a man, friend, and business owner.

Jon was a very nice person. He always had a hot cup of coffee and a donut waiting for us to arrive. He helped through numerous projects with a service level seldom seen nowadays. All the maintenence staff here at the North County Times will miss him tremendously.

Words seem so inadequate at such a time as this but the loss of Jon has broken my heart. I was always so very proud to call him my big brother. I will miss him....
