Irene Akey Obituary

Irene E. Akey, 95 FALLBROOK / VISTA -- Irene E. Akey passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010. She was born December 20, 1914 in Sacramento, Calif. Irene met her future husband while attending University of California at Berkeley. They married in Berkeley on December 28, 1937, and traveled to the Rose Bowl game for their honeymoon. Irene interrupted her college education to raise her family; one of her proudest achievements was her graduation from college at the same time that her children were completing their college studies. Irene enjoyed a teaching career specializing in early childhood education for high school mothers and their children. Irene pursued artistic interests and enjoyed learning and teaching. Her church family was very important to her. She was a member of PEO, Eastern Star, and the Fallbrook Quilt Guild, and the United Methodist Church. Irene is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Mikelson; son, Larry Akey; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eldest and youngest daughters, Alice and Janet, as well as her husband, Wayne ,who died in 1993. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 12, at Fallbrook United Methodist Church in Fallbrook. (760-728-1472).
