Remembering Gunnery Sgt. David Norcross OCEANSIDE -- My dad served in WWII, the Korean War, and in the Caribbean. He received a purple heart in Iwo Jima. He retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years and continued working in civil service at Camp Pendleton. He has six children all residing in the North County area. They are Donna Alpner, David Jr., Leslie, Kevin, Martin and Robert. He has grandchildren and great- grandchildren. My dad died two years to the day, October 22, 2010, after my mom died in 2008. They were married for 58 years. He has lived in Oceanside since 1958. He was 86 when he died. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, November 19, at San Luis Rey Mission, Oceanside. We will all miss my dad and his wonderfully funny sense of humor. We are proud of him. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

I think of David often. He was my 2nd cousin and I was in the corps at Pendleton in the 90´s. We use to sit in his living room as he told me stories of his time in the marine corps. I really loved his medals box. He was one of the few proud men that were at sarabachi and saw the first flag raising. I miss him
