Jacqueline Martin Obituary

Jacqueline Corrine Martin OCEANSIDE -- Jacqueline Corrine Martin, daughter of Lyman and Mary Gerrish and wife of Schuyler Martin, was born in New York on June 18, 1941. She was a long time Oceanside resident. She peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 5, 2010. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother to four sons, and a doting grandmother to nine grandchildren. Jacqueline was wise and had a quick wit. Her generosity was only exceeded by her good looks and charm. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 18, at the Oceanside Mortuary in Oceanside. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

The times I had met Jackie she was kind and full of life. She always seemed to be laughing and smiling. She always made sure those around her were comfortable. I am Melissa's (her daughter in-law) bestfriend and I am so grateful for all the love and support Jackie has shown her and everyone. You will be missed Jackie.

Bill and I were neighbors of Jackie and Jim's for almost 9 years. During this time we heard lots of fun and laughter coming from the back yard almost every Sunday. I know Jackie will be missed and the family will have comfort in the memories of their wife and mother. May Jackie rest in peace and God Bless this family.

Jackie....Our Saintly Woman in Heaven, is the most accurate description of Jackie today. As such we can pray to her and have our prayers answered in Gods time. I believe Jackie is at peace in Heaven with her mom Mary and dad Lyman, my dear late husband, watching over all of us. Jackie and I were more like sisters to each other always ending our phone calls with "Love you Kiddo." I am fighting having a "Blue Christmas" but a dear friend reminds me "Jackie is in Heaven, we are not." We will get through this time by being there for each other. Please remember I am only an e-mail or phone call away. My love to each member of the "Third Herd" as Jackie called her family members. Blessed Christmas to each of us. Lovingly, Roberta aka Bobbie aka Grandma Gerrish

Jackie was my daughter Melissa's other mom and best friend. I have always felt exceptionally blessed when I first met Schuylar and his wonderful mom and dad and family. I know the bond was strong and I was always welcomed on my visits to California with big smiles and special dinners , the ones like lamb chops with little paper things on the legs or was it the cornish game hens or that prime rib. All of you stay strong and be at peace. Thank you Jackie for the love and support and friendship you gave Melissa, I will always keep you in my heart, my thoughts and prayers.

Jackie was a beautiful person inside and out. Our friendship endured 3,000 miles and 30 years. I can truly say she was my BFF and I will miss her dearly. Our love goes out to JIm, Scott, Chris, Alex and Schuyler and their families. I know she loved you all unconditionally. Don and I, as well as our children Donald and Cynthia have many wonderful memories. We are so blessed to have had her in our life.

I only met Jackie a few times but I could tell that she's one of those rare people who wear their love on their sleeve. Such a beautiful lady. I know she'll be missed. "Love never fails."

Our first visit to Jackie's house was a birthday party for her grand-daughter, Madalynn. Jackie welcomed us and made us feel right at home that first time and it's been that way ever since. She had such an easy going nature, someone you could easily talk to, and just a pleasure to be around. We are happy to have been part of her extended family and will dearly miss her presence and her macaroni salad. God keep you close, dear Jackie.

As a friend of her youngest son, Schuyler and daughter-in-law, Melissa - I heard many wonderful stories of Jackie's Sunday dinners and her ability to make her family warn & happy with her love and great cooking! In my personal visits with Jackie - I found her to be a beautiful, sharp & witty lady who made you instantly feel like you could give her a big hug. Her huge smile and hearty laugh could fill the room. Although there were long periods between our visits, she always remembered me instantly. I know her Grandkids- Lil Schuyler & Maddie thought she hung the moon and she spoiled them like a Grandma should. And Schuyler recently shared with me that she spoiled the family dogs just as much. Jackie was the matriarch of her family and I know she will be missed greatly - but she leaves them with wonderful memories and strong family bonds. Be in peace Jackie.
