Jennifer Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2009.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A publicist says Jennifer Jones, who was nominated for Academy Awards five times and won for her portrayal of a saintly nun in "The Song of Bernadette," has died at age 90.

Leslie Denk, spokeswoman for the Norton Simon Museum, says Jones died Thursday at her home in Malibu. Her only son, Robert Walker, was at her side.

Jones, the widow of museum founder Norton Simon, was deeply involved in overseeing the Simon during her later years.

She was one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the 1940s and '50s, appearing in such films as "Duel in the Sun," ''Love is a Many-Splendored Thing" and "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit."

Since You Went Away, Jennifer Jones, this world has suffered a loss. Thank you for the kindness you so freely shared and taught. Your beauty that you so freely shared will never be forgotten and you will always be admired and adored. You are a shinning light of goodness and grace. I regret I never had the opportunity to touch your hands or hear your voice. I know you are basking in the Glory and presence of The Lord. We miss you.

For Jennifer...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

The only movie of Jennifer's I ever saw was "The Song of Bernadette." It was beautiful, and her portrayal of St. Bernadette was very moving. To be able to move from Song of Bernadette to the very different role she played in "Duel In The Sun" required far more than ordinary talent. We have lost a great artist in Jennifer Jones.

Mckinney Nazarene

February 26, 2010

Jennifer Jones made Portrait of Jenny, Duel In The Sun, and The Song of Bernadette into timeless classics. The ladies she portrayed came alive through the passion she put into each role.Psalm 37:29 tells us the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell therein forever.

Jennifer Jones was an extraordinary actress. Everyone should see her performance in Since You Went Away.

January 6, 2010

I was a young girl when I first saw Jennifer Jones in The Song of Bernadette. I sat spellbound and forever after I knew the name Jennifer Jones and made it a point to watch any movie she starred in. She was so convincing as Bernadette and made me "feel" what was happening to the her. I also loved her in Love is A Many Splendored Thing. She brought the viewer to tears as we shared the emotions the character was feeling. I wish I could see Song of Bernadette right now! Haven't seen it listed in years.

Ms. Jones was a great actress and I can't think of another who has made me actually experience the character's emotions. When I heard of her passing I also said "awww" and immediately and image of her as Bernadette, on her knees praying with radiant face lifted to heaven and rosary in hand. That movie, SHE, inspired me. Beautiful woman, beautiful life. God Bless her family and bring them comfort.

Ms Jones has been one of my favorite actresses since I became interested in movies. Contrary to most opinions, one of my favorite movies was "A Farewell to Arms." Granted it was too long for the content, but I think Jennifer Jones was superb and gave a spectacular performance. It is a shame the movie critics did not notice it. Whenever one of her films are on, I always watch them and I will continue to do so. She was one of a kind and will not be replaced. J. Humes, Harrisburg, PA.

I am sorry that Jennifer passed away. I remember the many wonderful movies that she starred in. I too have lost loved ones in death. What has given me comfort are the words in the Bible that tell us that soon "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28,29)

Revelation 21:1-4 assures us that there will be no more outcry nor pain. The former things have passed away. What a beautiful world that will be.

I hope this has given you comfort in your time of sorrow.
