A little on the late side, but today I'm in tune with father's day as I am thinking of my father and he and Mitch were lifelong friends, collaborators in music, went to Eastman School of Music together, spent many an evening at our house. When I was very little he dropped by one day with a gift for my parents in the form of a minah bird which had already been taught a substantial vocabulary of words, some of which were not of the cleanest variety. The entertainment world in NYC in the 30s-70s was something special, the verve, flair, flash, glamour, galloping evolution of all the inherent art pursuits(especially music) was legendary and iconic. Not to mention the characters involved, of which my father and Mitch represented. So I suppose this is not nearly a tribute to Mitch but to both these men as fathers

One of my Dad’s very favorite music legend. Mitch Miller sing along became a kind of soundtrack of my youth. I lost my Dad this week and was looking for songs to remind me of him, and there was Mitch to comfort me and bring back moments with my Dad in passing. Thank you Mitch RIP

Mitch Miller and his family lived up the street from me in Stony Point. His son and I were in Miss Kitty Steven's kindergarten together. We went on a trip to Bear Mountain and he fell off the jungle gym and broke his arm. When I was 13, I worked in a general store by my house and Mr. Miller would stop in to buy things. He was always nice and spoke very kindly. He had a good long life. Now, he can sing with the angels.

I was too young to follow the bouncing ball and sing along with Mitch Miller, and yet I sang. My sister and I discovered a Mitch Miller album in our dad's collection. We had a record player and the record liner had the words to the songs on it. We listened over and over and learned many popular songs of the 50s. This was way later in the late seventies and early 80s. We suddenly had a common musical interest in our family! So now I can sing "Sweat Violets" to my toddler nieces and nephews and they love it! My musical life was enriched by Mitch! We look forward to hearing many happy songs fill the air when this scripture is fulfilled, "But the meek one themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

To the Miller Family,
I loved "Sing Along With Mitch" and follow the bouncing ball. I know he will be missed by so many, he was such a talented and gracious man.
In this difficult time please find comfort from the many wonderful memories he must have made over the years.
The following scriptures brought me much comfort when my brother died: Isaiah 26:19-"Your loved ones will live again...they will be raised up."
This is in harmony with Psalms 37:29-"The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it."

Thanks for many great musical memories from my childhood. I loved watching "Sing Along with Mitch" and believe it sparked my life long love of choral music. I was fortunate enough to see Mr. Miller conduct live at the first Festival Williamsburg in the 1980s and saw first hand how fine a musician he was. Deepest sympathy to the family in your loss. It is wonderful that he had such a good long life.

Thanks Mitch. I still remember the lyrics and melodies to so many songs from the many albums we had. You brought music into our home, and so many songs that were entwined with the history of this country -- when everyone could sing around a campfire or while riding in a covered wagon, and then the great memorable songs from broadway musicals. The current trend of high tech individual game entertainment has left a void in knowledge of what should be our common culture of familiar songs. My condolences to your family and fans.

I had a baby brother who loved Mr. Miller, he would watch every program and move his little hands like Mitch did, singing along to every song. He was blind due to a brain tumor and he went to the Lord at 5 years of age. But that little baby loved this show. Never missed it. We would all gather around the television enjoying every minute with our little Freddie and we would sing a long with Mitch. Now they can sing together again. Thank you Mr. Miller and family. He was well loved. Our deepest condolences for your loss. J.E.Brown

My first memories of singing are the songs from Mitch Miller's albums. As a child I would pretend to read the words inside the album songbook. But I had memorized all the songs by listening to them repeatedly as my father played them all day on the stereo. What a musician, composer, and wonderful man. He was blessed with a long life. He's now the angels' choir director, I'm sure. Thank you, Mr. Miller.

As a child of the 50's and 60's, I was living in the lower east side of Manhattan attending PS 160 (near Delancey Street). I was in the school chorus and our class received a special invitation to "sing along with Mitch". After our wonderful experience at the studio, I was totally amazed to see myself on TV in a future segment. My mom let me stay up late on a school night to watch the show...it felt so magical. I have few photos of childhood and how I WISH I had a copy of that taped broadcast. I later got the chance to see Mitch Miller and Leslie Ugams, et al...then around 1991 (NYC) and told Mr. Miller my story. It was a very nice conversation. I am glad I had the pleasure to meet him again. My sympathy and prayers are with his family. Thank you.

To the family of Mr. Miller,
As a child in the early 60''s, his music was simple with the bouncing ball, was the first memory of trying to sing with music. My parents found it very cute to hear me in my tiny male voice. So we watch each and every show to let me rip my vocal cords. I am sure that all of the singers are being led by the best. However, they would need the bouncing ball. Paul Hill, Spartanburg, S.C.

"Our whole family sang along with Mr. Miller and thanks to him we still know the lyrics to many wonderful songs. His pioneering in recording and eclectic tastes were also appreciated. His enthusiasm was palpable." Claire Pula (Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey)
