I believe Rosemary is in heaven now, no longer suffering and now doing the things she was not able to do on earth. Rosemary is now reunited with her family, some of them she hasn't seen for more than sixty years. However, I do feel that Rosemary was a gift from God. She and Eunice helped brighten the lives of millions with intellectual disabilities.

Dear Kennedy Family,
I am so sorry about the loss of Rosemary. She was an inspiration to many of the people in this world who are handicapped and even to those who are not, like myself. She was obviously even an inspiration to your own family considering much of the work many of you have done for disabled and handicapped people in the past. May she find peace with the many other members of the Kennedy Family who had gone to heaven before her. And may all her living family members find peace within them. I am sorry for your loss.

I grew up in the 1960s always knowing about the Kennedy family -- probably because of my Irish Catholic family, and most especially my maternal grandfather who had the last name of Shannahan -- rather Irish! Anyway the first book I received about the family, a children's book titled "This is JFK," had pictures of him and all his siblings and I memorized their names. Rosemary always was the one I wanted to know more about. What an inspiration she was to her family and to all.

What a true inspiration Rosemary and your family have been to the developmental disability community. I work in this field and have the opportunity to see the lives of individuals with mental retardation improve thanks to the advances the Kennedy family has made in this field. God bless you all and thank you for your courage to speak up for those who were unable to speak for themselves.

To the Family members of Rosemary!
My deepest heartfelt sorrow for your lose of your dearest member of your family. Her body is gone but her memories live on in the ones who she has touched and inspired. As a person who has worked with the disablities, they are normal human beings that have innocent hearts! Rosemary will be now singing with the angels and running through the clouds with her siblings up in heaven! Rosemary, you are now alive and free roam in heaven! GOD BLESS YOU ROSEMARY!!

Dear Senator Kennedy,
I have sent a Sympathy Card to your Senate Office, expressing my deepest sympathy and condolences on the passing of your Sister Rosemary. I would also like to take advantage of this medium (the internet) to do the same.
It always moved me as a teenager, when President Kennedy would speak out about mental illness and encourage families to "Include", rather than "Exclude", family members with special problems, in the activities of their families.
It showed the late President's compassion in this regard. Something this Country has been lacking in, for a good many years.
Sincerely,
William P. Urban

To Mrs. Shriver, Sen. Kennedy, and the entire Kennedy family, my deepest condolensces on the loss of your dear Rosemary. Growing up during the 1960s, one of my dearest friends was bornn developmentnally disabled. Shortly after Mrs Shriver's article appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post" about her sister, it was as if a light came on for the developmentally disabled. Our public school district established classes for developmentally disabled children, then training programs in the local high school, a sheltered workshop in the community, and finally, the parents of these beautiful children raised enough money to build a continuing care center where their adult children could live and be cared for after they passed on. All of them became Special Olympiads. I think Eunince Shriver and the Kennnedys played a big role in how we treat developmentally challenged persons in our country, as well as societies throughout the world. This is Rosemary Kennedy's legacy, and it was certainly evident in my community. Thank-you and Godspeed, Rosemary.

TO THE ENTIRE KENNEDY FAMILY
I only hope that in some way Rose Mary knew what her illness has done for this world. The fact that the Special Olympics were inspired by her and Best Buddies generations later was also inspired by her is a marvelous legacy. The fact that she was a Kennedy was a birth thing the fact that she was made public from being a Kennedy was a blessing for so many for generations to come.

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
-- Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long.
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
-- Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
-- A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
-- Miss me, but let me go!
