My favorite Boots quote: Ralph Emory had Boots on Nashville Now program. Ralph said to Boots "you must practice a lot to sound so good". Boots said "I practiced a lot when I first started, but I just play now".

I worked on and played guitar on Printers Alley with the late Billy Nelson (Willie's son) in the late 1980s. We hung out with spoke and joked with Boots daily who often invited us into his place for complimentary drinks and dinner. He was one of the finest people I've ever known.

Visited Nashville at age 11 with my parents, we went to Boots' club to see him play one night. There was a heckler in the audience who was getting a little salty, and Boots shushed him, pointing to me in the audience, and telling him to behave himself (embarrassing for me, but hopefully more so for the heckler.)
It was a wonderful show, and he could not have been more kind to a little girl who truly enjoyed his music...Boots and his love of music will forever be in my heart.

Since the age of 13 listened to Boots playing on Monument Records. Bought my first Selmer Tenor Sax at 19 Years old after playing an old Alto Buffet Crampon used. He inspired me and still have his long play 33 records. A great musician. Play your horn in Heaven along with your wife Dee .

It's been just over sixteen years since Boots left us for home, and we still miss him. He was and will always be unique - a one-of-a-kind musician and entertainer. He was a husband, a father and grandfather, as well as a great friend to many. The world never heard such a warmth and soulful tone from a brass instrument before he came along, and, I suppose, it will never will again. The mold was broken after he passed on. Thanks for the memories, Boots. We all hope to see you when we too head home.

I always heard growing up that my father was a cousin to Boots, his name was William Randolph. My son has been doing Ancestry and found Boots in our tree so we now know it’s true. I emailed Boots a few years before his passing and he returned it and said he’d forgotten a lot and apologized. I was excited to get the email and I wish I’d kept it to show my boys. I’m trying to find out what high school he graduated from in Evansville, IN. Any information you can give me would be appreciated, I wasn’t close with my father after the age of 14 so I was left with questions.. Thank you and condolences to the family. I lost my mother in May of ‘07 so I didn’t really take time to send condolences.

For Boots...
To this day you and
Roy Orbison are
forever linked.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

At one time I thought I was a good sax player until I heard boots play some 25 years ago in Evanville IND. After hearing him play I went back and started over-- what talent-- Boots must of had direct contact with the man upstairs because I could tell it came from the heart and was a gift from God.

I'm a saxophonist myself, and I have always looked up to Randolph- even before I knew his name. I had heard Yakety Sax and it made me smile to think that maybe, just maybe someday I could be that good. I will always look up to him as an inspiration to keep playing Orlean, my tenor sax. He was a worthy legend to musicians everywhere. I can only hope to someday play half as good as he was.

An absolute must for all the Musical Halls Of Fame,NASHVILLE. Have all his music, play with it to this day, modeled my style after his, but there was only one Boots Randolph. I am so glad we were able to see him in Pigion Forge when he was here last. There were some greats, but he was The Greatest. My dearest wishes for his family and friends. A singer sings, yes? But someone that can evoke the scope of emotion through a sax like he did was nothing short of a gift to us all.

Dad introduced me to his music as a 12 yr-old. Played with him years later when at the W.P.B FL Auditorium, when touring with Chet Atkins & Floyd Cramer and others through the years. Don't believe there will ever be someone that can express emotion through a Sax as sweetly as he did. His ability to gently touch the mind, or rush pure emotion and intensity through all your senses was one of a kind. God Bless Him, all his family. He will be missed, but his music and memories will not.

My husband and I have known Boots for years and both loved him dearly. Boots helped us celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary many years ago and we had since become good friends. He laughingly said those many years ago, "We'll do this again on your 50th". How we looked forward to that, however, my husband went to heaven before that ever happened. But Boots remained a dear friend and always a true gentlemen. Once, after Gordy had gone, when he came to our town, he played "Stardust" for my husband, Gordy, and I. I shall treasure those memories forever. What a treasure!
I feel comforted as I am sure that my Gordy met him at the Heavenly Gates.
Sincerest sympathy to Dee and your whole family.

To The Family of "Boots" Randolph:
I was out of town when I heard of Boots' death. I recently have had the honor of producing a CD that highlighted Boots and other musicians from an earlier era. Great man to have known and to have worked with. He will be sorely missed. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you at this time.

It is so nice to know that the 'one and only' Boots was loved by so many people..I have been a fan for over 30 years..he accepted a random phone call I made to his club one time (on a bet that he would not come to the phone)..we talked about the saxophone and music, and it was just like talking to someone you had always known..what a gentleman, and amazing saxophonist! There will never be another Boots..

I am a 53 year old physician in Tennessee and have been a fan of Boots since I was 16 and played sax in the high school band. I have had the honor to have seen Boots twice in concert with Floyd Cramer and Chet Atkins. I also saw him perform twice at his club in Nashville. I will always cherish those memories. He was truly a class act. I sincerely hope I hear him again in the great by and by. I am sure God likes to hear little Yakity Sax now and then.

WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL MY PARENTS HAD THE YAKETY SAX ALBUM AND I WOULD CALL MY GRANDPARENTS & ASK IF THEY WANTED ME TO PUT THEM ON A SHOW. THEY WOULD COME TO OUR HOUSE AND I WOULD DANCE TO THE WHOLE ALBUM. MY SISTER STEPPED ON THE ALBUM AND BROKE IT AND MY HEART. MANY YEARS LATER A FRIEND OF MINE FOUND ME ANOTHER RECORD AT A FLEA MARKET. JUST LIKE THE ONE I HAD AS A LITTLE GIRL. I CHERISH IT, NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE MEMORIES IT BRINGS BACK, BUT I LOVE BOOTS RANDOLPH!!!! MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

I send my sympathies to the Randolph family and friends with the loss of such a special and dear person. The music world has lost one of the really great musicians. Boots had style, musicianship, technique, tone and the emotional quality in his playing that grabbed you and got to your heart. We will miss him but his music lives on in our LP, tape and CD collections. How fitting that the King of the sax played several numbers with the other King.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I always liked and respected Boots Randolph and his talent, but I never knew, until I read his obituary, that he was the sideman responsible for the classic sax sound that defined some of my very favorite 60's songs, such as "I'm Sorry," "Return To Sender," "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," and "Oh, Pretty Woman." Thank you, Boots, and may you rest in peace. God bless you and your family.

The music world has lost a towering legend. Boots Randolph’s influence on so many genres – Country, Rockabilly, R&B, and Rock and Roll – is estimable. He helped define – and put his stamp upon -- the cumulative sound of his generation.
We always associate the ‘music from Heaven’ to be full and uplifting. That’s because it’s got folks like Boots, Beverly Sills and Bill Pinckney, all of whom we lost this week, to give it that soulful sound. Our lives are richer for them and the ‘music’ we hear from now one will ring from them.

Boots Randolph has to be the world's greatest sax man, one of the best interpreters of music, I first saw Boots in Greensboro Auditorium and was mesmerized when he played Harlem Nocturne, a great beat, unbelievable sax.
