John Jansing Obituary
JANSING--John Curry, "Jack," age 81, died suddenly on August 21, 2007 at Kennebunkport, Maine. Jack was born November 2, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of John B and Louella Jansing. Upon graduation from Augusta Military Academy in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was admitted to Dartmouth College under Navy's V-12 program. He served as an officer on a minesweeper in the Pacific Theater throughout the latter part of World War II, he then returned to Dartmouth, graduated in 1948. Beloved husband of Shelley Bush Jansing, father of John, Christopher and Caroline Jansing Vohr, grandfather to five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a beloved son, Robert Dun Patterson Jansing. Jack started his career at Lord & Taylor, and then at Genesco as president of Christian Dior/New York, where he received national recognition for his innovation and success. At the request of the late Harold Bache he joined Bache & Co., where he was head of Mutual Funds and a member of the Board of Directors; Jack helped found and later became Chairman of Independent Election Corporation of America, a proxy distribution company until his retirement. From 1978 to 2000 he was a Director of the Lord Abbett Family of Funds, a founding Director of Vestaur Securities, Inc. and Board member until its merger with an Evergreen Fund, and from 1978 until his death a Director of The Alpine Group Inc., recently serving as the Board's "lead" director. His interests included Trustee of Jupiter Island Clinic, Director of Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, Trustee of Seamen's Church Institute of New York, Director of the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club and President of the Creek Club in Locust Valley. In Mill Neck; Head of Zoning Board of Appeals, Police Commissioner, and served as Mayor for nine years. A memorial service for Jack will be held at the Christ Chapel, Jupiter Island, Hobe Sound, Florida at 4:30pm on Saturday, November 3, 2007.
