Ed Sonnenblick was a mentor who literally changed my life when he took me under his wing while I was a budding cardiovascular trainee. Later over the last 3 decades, as colleagues, we spent many hours at meetings and dinners discussing cardiovascular science, philosophy or just life in general. It was a privilege to have known him and I will miss him greatly.

I first met Dr. Sonnenblick almost 20 years ago. He opened his office, intellect and heart to me on the first meeting, and was a frequent advisor and delightful colleague over the passing years. His practical and insightful view of cardiovascular pharmacology and physiology has been a constant touchstone to the medical research community. We will all miss him, in so many ways.

A towering and generous intellect and a caring human being, he taught us how to think about cardiology and to strive for excellence. It was a joy and a privilege to be a fellow in his program, to sit in conference with him two to three times a week and to always be inspired by him after every discussion. ‘…Gladly did he learn and gladly did he teach’. His presence will be missed but always felt.

Ed Sonnenblick was truly a renaissance man shaping the lives and thinking of everyone he touched. From the glorious days at the Brigham to revamping the Cardiology Department at Einstein, he was an exemplary mentor, true friend, and esteemed colleague. My deepest sympathies to Linda and his family.

From the time I first met him in the 1970's until his passing, Ed was, to me, a towering intellect and first-rate scientific leader. I never had an exchange with him without learning something most valuable, and always enjoyed his warmth, charm and remarkable wit. A great man has departed---But we are all much richer for having known him. May God Bless his family.

Ed Sonnenblick was one of the true giants of cardiovascular physiology. He taught an entire generation of physicians and scientists how to understand the workings of the heart at the most basic levels. His contributions, both personally and intellectually, were extraordinary.

A scholar, educator, mentor and friend - Ed Sonnenblick, along with Jim Scheuer and Leslie Leinwand, had the vision to create one of the first molecular cardiology programs in the country. He will be missed by the entire community of cardiovascular physician-scientists.

May God bless his family and other loved ones.
As a medical resident I was in awe of this “giant of cardiology”.
But as a cardiology fellow I found him to be a gentle giant who
loved to teach and mentor young doctors. I will always be
grateful for the privilege of being one of his trainees.

Dr. Sonnenblick was an inspiration to me for the last 30 years. It was 30 years ago, that he assisted in the interpretation of my fathers autopsy report. A friend of my fathers, Joel Kozol, asked him to review it for me. Dr. Sonnenblick went out of his way and wrote me a lovely letter. He explained the condition of a severly dilated cardiomyopathy from long standing hypertension and severe CAD that took my father's life at age 55. It marked the beginning of a life long journey for me to become a cardiac research nurse and eventually a heart failure nurse practitioner. Dr.Sonnenblick will be missed.
