Alan Goldin Obituary

GOLDIN--Alan Gary, of Milwood, NY lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Saturday October 27, 2007. Alan underwent an autologous stem cell transplant in July and fought valiantly. We were all so amazed by his strength. He was born on August 5, 1942, the son of Harvey and Nita Goldin who predeceased him. He leaves behind his beloved wife and partner of 38 years, Harriet (Brandler), two daughters whom he treasured, Stacey Wittekind and Allison; a son-in-law of whom he was proud, Marc; two darling grandchildren, Kevin Henry and Sydney Grace, a myriad of close friends and extended family whom he respected and loved. Alan was a product of the NYC school system -Bx Science; CCNY, from which he received a B.S. degree in Economics and Statistics; Baruch Graduate School where he was granted an MBA in Marketing. He then completed a stint in the Army Reserve before beginning a career in advertising, first in Media Research and then branching out into Media Planning. He started out at Grey Advertising; moved to Ogilvy & Mather; BBD&O, where he was Media Director for several years; Kenyon & Eckhardt; and then moved to the other side of the fence when he joined Jos. E. Seagram & Sons to head up a new in-house Media Agency. When that was disbanded several years later Alan landed various other posts at DeWitt, Grace & Rothschild and CIA. Four years ago he finally ventured out on his own and co-founded 3 Plus Media, the culmination of a life-long dream. During his career, Alan served as Chairman of the AAAA Media Research Committee, the AAAA Consumer Magazine Committee and the Agency Media Research Council and as Vice Chairman of the Media Advisory Committee for the Audit Bureau of Circulation. He was a Board member of Advertising Information Services and the Traffic Audit Bureau for Media Measurement. Alan was a highly sought after speaker and gave countless talks in the US and abroad. Alan's passion in life was golf. He was a member of the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk, a member of the Westchester Golf Association and a sought after partner throughout the advertising industry. His wit and low handicap always ensured him of a foursome. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Funeral services will be graveside on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at Sharon Gardens, Valhalla, NY at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lymphoma Research Foundation, 111 Broadway, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10001-1005.

I was so very sad to find out about Alan's death. He was absolutley one of the funniest and warmest people I have ever met, and although it has been some time since I have seen him, I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

This has to be the hardest note I've ever written. Alan, you were my mentor, my friend. I am sadden beyond belief and feel lost in this world with you. You've been my guiding force not only in advertising but in the ways of the world. You taught me well. You are generous, caring (to a fault!) and always there for me.
I can't begin to say how much I appreciate all that you've done for me. Missing you so much, with love, Maryanne

Alan Goldin was one of the finest humans I have ever known. I’m proud to call Alan my friend. Alan was a great teacher and my mentor in the advertising business. I loved him. I will miss Alan deeply. Moving forward will be difficult but it needs to be done. I will think of him always. Whenever a problem or challenge comes my way I will think of what advise Alan would have given me. Alan loved to laugh and tell jokes, I will miss that too. I had a lot of fun knowing Alan and those memories will never fade.

My memories of Alan all revolve around good humor and fellowship...and mostly on the golf course. He had a wonderful and self deprecating sense of humor. He was too modest to say it about himself, but no question he was a mensch. Jim Berrien

Alan,
You were a breath of fresh air in a business or an abundance of hot air. You will be missed more than you will ever realize, my friend. You were one of the nicest and funniest giants in the business.

My condolences to Harriet and the family.

Alan was one of my first ever sales calls when he was at Ogilvy. I had no idea of how to sell ads and he became my teacher for which I am forever grateful.

Alan was completely fair, reasonable and a wonderful human being. I'm so sad to hear this awful news.

Alan was a businessman of high integrity, a golfer who respected the game, and, above all, a person of great courage through these past years. Mary and I will miss him.

Alan, the world just won’t be the same without you. Your intelligence, integrity, loyalty, and joie de vivre were a pleasure to behold. We are so fortunate to have known you and worked with you. A treasure trove of wonderful memories will sustain us.

Harriet, you have been truly heroic this past year and an inspiration to all of us. You will miss Alan terribly but can go to sleep each night knowing you did all you could and then some.

George and I send our heartfelt condolences to you, Stacey and Allison.

Alan,

The world really will never be the same without you in it. I never knew a man as unfailingly kind, unreservedly generous, genuinely and consistently funny and thoroughly honest. It really wasn't your golf handicap at all! You were simply the best friend one could ever have.

My sincere condolences to your beloved bride, Harriet, and two very special daughters, Stacey and Allison and all the rest of the Goldin family.

Your buddy and permanent fan,

Lew Pringle

Alan,
My friend, my mentor and my business partner, know that I will miss you a great deal. Thank you for your patience and counsel, from you I have learned much.

I trust by now you are finding your way around the great golf course in heaven. I also expect you soon will have a tee time with Payne Stewart, who no doubt, has awaited your arrival. I know you will also be busy playing with some of the golf greats who are now in heaven, Ben Hogan, Walter Hagen, 'Babe' Ditrickson, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Harry Vardon and many more.

I also know you will keep an eye on how I run the business. I expect you will occasionally guide me from afar.

With love and great respect, I bid you farewell.
