Walker Shelton



Melva "Reba" Walker Shelton, 98, of Gretna, formerly of Hurt, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born Dec. 27, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus E. Walker and Dolly Roark Walker. Mrs. Shelton was predeceased by her husband, Edwin R. Shelton, and a son, Garland Shelton. She was the last survivor of 13 children. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Linda Shelton of Gretna and Rufus and Jean Shelton of Gretna; three daughters and sons-in-law, Alise and Bill Russell of Norfolk, Gereline and Dickie Hines of Hurt and Christine and John Achor of Virginia Beach; and 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Hurt United Methodist Church by the Rev. Warren Stackhouse and the Rev. Bert Johnson. Burial will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Gereline and Dickie Hines, 3596 Pocket Road, Hurt.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Hurt United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 105 Riverview Road, Hurt, VA 24563.

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
