Gertrude COPELAND Obituary

Gertrude H. Copeland

Ms. Gertrude H. Copeland departed this life Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at 9:15 p.m., at the Carrington Nursing Home in Lynchburg. She was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Lynchburg, and was the daughter of the late John A. Herndon and Etta Miller Herndon.

At an early age, she accepted the Lord and was baptized at White Rock Baptist Church. She worked for several employers as a domestic during her active years and was well thought of and respected by all.

Ms. Copeland leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Robert L. Copeland (Sandra) and Arnold C. Copeland (Debbie), both of Chesapeake; one daughter, Charlene Copeland Davis of Forest; six grandchildren, Chonita, Nicole, Cordaro, Jasmine, Sharika and Isaiah; a great-grandson, Nigel R.K. Gbekie; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at Community Funeral Home, with Pastor Mary Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. The family is receiving friends and the cortege will assemble at the daughter's home, 1647 Bellevue Road, Forest. Condolences can be

com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to The Conference of Minority Public Administrators Scholarship Fund, c/o Crestar Bank, 1612 Upperville Court, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Community Funeral Home is directing.
