Lacy NOWLIN Obituary
Lacy C. Nowlin Sr. departed this life Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born Sept. 5, 1931, to the late Horace and Etta Nowlin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannetta Nowlin Myers.
Lacy is survived by his lifetime companion, Rachel Johnson; 11 children, Lacy C. Nowlin Jr. (Marie) of Rustburg, Carol Jones (Sam) of Gretna, Mamie Nowlin (Willie) of Altavista, Lillian Womack (David) of Lynch Station, Joann Douglas (Robert), Michael Nowlin (Linda), Barry Nowlin, all of Williamsburg, James Allen (Mary), Rosa Allen, both of Roanoke, Lawrence Allen of South Carolina and Larry Allen (Sandra) of Lynchburg; four sisters, Hallie Spencer, Doris Clark, Lillian Robinson and Geraldine Johnson; a brother, Curtis Nowlin; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at First St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Claude Gunn officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Community Funeral Home and other times at 1314 Taylor St. The cortege will assemble at Community Funeral Home.
