John Drago Obituary

DRAGO - John of Palm Coast, Florida at age 86 passed into Heaven as the Moon rose on April 17, 2008. He was with his children in the home he had so come to love. He was born September 8, 1921 in Brooklyn to the late Natale and Giovannini Drago. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis A. Drago whom he was married to for 59 years before she passed away in 2002. Devoted father of his son Noel Drago and his wife Kristina of Palm Coast, FL and Jennifer Marsala and her husband Dennis of East Islip, L.I. Cherished grandfather of John, Nicole, Noel, Melissa, Denise and Daniel. Their spouses, Kim, Brian, Christine, and Keith. Proud great grandfather of Daria, Samantha, Jordan, Hayden, Michael and Peyton. Loving brother of Angelina Drago, Frank Drago and his wife Joanne of Hauppauge and Alfred Drago and his wife Ann of Newbern, NC. He will be greatly missed by Jennifer Toledo and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A WWII veteran, he served in the Burma, China and India Campaign as a Chaplain's Assistant and was in charge of organizing events for the USO. During his lifetime he worked in many fields among them; Produce Importing with his Dad, the Garment Industry as a cutter and as a Business Agent for the ILGWU. Later on he was proprietor of National Sani-can Corp. and Devito Cesspool Services. He was very proud to be a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, VFW Post #8696, The Elks, The American Legion Post #0400 and the Italian American Club of Palm Coast. Reposing at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons East Islip Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street (1/2 mile West of the S.S. Parkway, Exit 45W). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial, St. Mary's RC Church, East Islip, L.I., Friday, 9:45AM. Interment Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I. Visiting Wednesday and Thursday 2-4:30 and 79:30PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in John's memory to St. Anthony's High School for the New Chapel Fund, c/o Jennifer A. Marsala, 8 Country View Lane, East Islip, NY 11730.
