Oma welcomes Nathaniel, May 2006

Oma,

You were one of those rare and truly beautiful people in this world and I am so, so blessed to have had you in my life.

You taught me quiet strength, grace and nurturing. You were my grandmother, my friend, a teacher, a bridesmaid (at 84!) and a soft place to fall.

The day you welcomed my son into the world will always be a memory kept tightly bound in my heart. Everything you gave me, I wanted to give to him and you got that.

Though you left us just as my daughter was coming into the world, it was your strength that fortified me. Now, nearly a year later, I know you would be so pleased with her. She has your eyes; gentle, dark blue smiling eyes.

You are so much a part of who I am, and who my children will be.

I love you always, my Oma.
