Allan Livingstone Obituary

LIVINGSTONE - Allan L., of Newport News, VA set off on a great adventure August 19, 2008. He left well-stocked with a lifetime of love and laughter. You may have known him as family, friend, Marine, neighbor, coworker, parishioner, coach, volunteer, patient or even the Muffin Man. If you were one of his "people", you witnessed uncommon bravery, true love and magic. His wife, Rose, children - Mary Vislocky, Eileen, Rose, Maureen Boccitto, Allan, James, and John, their spouses, his 9 grandchildren, his brother, Robert, and sister, Marie "Bonnie" Dickerson, would like you to take this opportunity to eat your favorite food, play your favorite tune and celebrate the people you hold most dear. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30pm, Friday, August 22 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00am, Saturday, August 23 at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. Ken Wood. Interment will take place at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.

To the Livingstone family,

I feel privileged and grateful to have had the opportunity to know Al. I enjoyed his friendship, the camaraderie, the sharing of Marine Corps, and life experiences, and the e-mails.

Al was a talented and accomplished mentor. Someone made a statement to the effect that, he is in heaven making sure that some young marine gets “squared away.” I am one of the “young marines” that he squared away down here on earth.

Al impelled me to become more active in the Marine Corps League. I once hesitated to accept a nomination to an office in our Marine Corps League Detachment, but Al had a way of getting a commitment in spite of any efforts to evade it; he also, offered encouragement, and assistance. I hope that I have lived up to his expectations.

May God give you strength during your bereavement.

Yours in Christ,
Alphonso D. Edwards

My husband and I knew Al from Busch Gardens. I worked with him at the Muffin Man and enjoyed spending time with him. He was the first and only to call me "Ai" as he calls his daughter, but with an "E." He will be missed. I'm sorry I just found out. I would have come to the funeral. I will be keeping you in my prayers.

Al,you will always be The Muffin Man to me.You were a really special person to me.You always told the truth even if I didn't always want to hear it and I truly respected that.Your stories about the Corp and your wicked sense of humor will always be remembered. You always spoke so lovingly when you talked about your beloved Rose, and she can take great comfort in the fact that you truly loved her.You always spoke warmly about your children and your grandkids and people knew there was a lot of love in that gruff exterior you showed to most.Thank you for taking care of Becky and for being there when she needed help.Rest in peace my friend and I hope one day to be laughing with you in Heaven....Sandy from the Bakery

Dear Rose & Family,...I am so sorry for your lost as he was a true brother Marine. I hope he did not suffer to much at the end. I just lost my brother last week also. He was in so much pain at the end that I was happy that he went on to the next world. Allan was in HMR-163 (Japan) with me in 1957. He was a Parachute Rigger & I was a Helicopter Mechanic. I was glad that we made contact these past years as it brough back some memories of the past. When you say your last words to him will you tell him I'll see him up there as we are all brothers.....Semper Fi to you Al...............May you rest in peace........Bob Higgins
