Alice Leahy Obituary

LEAHY - Alice M., age 86, passed away on September 4, 2008 in Auburn, AL. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Eileen in 1950, her beloved husband, Robert V. Leahy in 1994 and her three brothers and six sisters. She leaves her children Kathleen (Robert) Parson of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Mary Alice (Vernon Lee) Hoggatt of Milford, CT, Robert (Susan) Leahy of Monroe, LA, Joan (William) Gruver of Eagles Mere, PA, Michael (Linda) Leahy of Chatham, NJ, Joseph (Anne) Leahy of Madison, NJ, Regina (Joseph) Touchton of Notasulga, AL, Elizabeth (Marshall) Putnam of Cumming, GA, as well as 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alice was born in Jamaica Queens, NY, the daughter of Beatrice and Ambrose Hussey. She was a graduate of Jamaica High School where she met her husband Bob. She and Bob raised their family in Lindenhurst, NY. She moved to Auburn, AL in 1996 and became a vibrant member of the community. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a volunteer with the local Head Start Program, a life-long learner at Auburn University's OLLI and a comfort to many who were suffering from illness. She was an avid sports fan and golfer. Although she was devoted to the NY Yankees, she quickly adopted the Auburn Tigers and attended every home game during their baseball season. Alice's loving spirit has touched countless people throughout her life. This spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren and those who were blessed to know her. She was cherished by her family and friends and will be missed by all. In her honor, a funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15th at 10:00am, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chatham, NJ. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 16th at 11:00am, at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22nd at 11:00am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Auburn, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 302 E. Magnolia Ave.; Auburn, AL; 36830.

My dear AUNT TINY, I will miss you so much, you were like a mother to me, now you are in a better place and I look forward to being with you someday. You and Uncle Bob were special to our family and Thanks for being such a GREAT AUNT AND UNCLE to the Wilt Boys.
