Looking back it is amazing to me how long I have known the Lucas'. Jodi had not even started school. My best babysitters came from the Lucas clan including Wacky. He was a real friend in many ways. I will miss calling the house to have a friendly voice answer and say "Oho Jane, it's trouble." Love to All

There never comes a lonely day but that we miss the laughing ways
Of those who used to walk with us through all our happy yesterdays.
We seldom miss the earthly great--the famous men that life has known--
But, as the years go racing by, we miss the friends we used to own.
This is from all Bill's shipmates on the Philippine Sea

Dear Aunt Jane,
Cristina and I were in Venice when we received the news. It was sad to hear of Uncle Whacky's passing. I always think of the two of you as being one. It must be difficult for you and the family. The two of you were, for all practical purposes, my surrogate parents growing up. I was fortunate to have such terrific God parents. The birthday cards have made life a little better over the years too, especially the 'superkid' one (smile) a few years ago.
I always enjoyed going to the house on Foxhurst and loved all the times we had there; Halloweening, exploring Oceanside with Billy, and of course all the holidays - there were the best. When you moved to NH, it was a big change in my life too; however it was still wonderful to visit.
Uncle Whacky was always great to be around, especially with his sense of humor. The two of you have created a supportive and loving family, which will continue his legacy forever. My thoughts and prays always include you. I will be thinking of Uncle Whacky and my mother now. Hopefully there is peace in heaven.
Your nephew,
Gary

Dear Jane & all of the Lucas family,
We are so sorry to know of Whacky's death. No matter when it comes there is always that shock, and the thoughts that it was just to soon. I know there are no words to console you and the family right now, but I know each of you have that one special memory that you will always cherish, and many memories that you will hold dear to your heart. I know we do. That song, "A life time isn't long enough to be in love with you", so true. Be comforted in knowing that you will see Whacky again. He went to wait for you. Our Lord is coming soon, and WOW! what a WONDERFUL DAY that will be when we all see Jesus. Love you.

I was happy to have visited you both while you were here in Florida this past spring. It was a long time since I saw both of you - probably the last pig roast. I am very sorry for your loss, Jane. He will be missed as he was always so caring. I have many fond memories of the many visits I have made to your nice home in Bradford. Take care and if there is anything I can do please let me know.

Aunt Jane and all the Gang in Lucasville:
The world was certainly a better place with Uncle Wacky in it. In addition to being Ed's uncle and godfather, he was also one of the warmest, most caring people either of us has ever known. We spent many August weekends at the Lucas Annual Pig Roasts. Our kids would cry when we had to leave. We will miss his great smile and the twinkling eyes. We have to be grateful that he is finally at peace. We love you all.
