Court van Sickler

December 27, 2008

Jerry Silverman was a greatly admired, gentle and warm-hearted man. He was a best friend to our parents - Dorothy and Court van Sickler, and a second father to us - Court, Doug (deceased), and Mark van Sickler.

He was the best friend a family could have; greatly supported us in all our endeavors whether it was Boy Scouts, or Church.

Jerry taught all three of us to drive after our parents gave up. He was hard but fair.

He was always there when our Dad needed someone to talk to, or to go to dinner with. And he never disappointed us with his stories, and always made us laugh.

We will miss Jerry Silverman. A man of God, and Country.

Did not really know Jerome, but did have the pleasure of meeting his sons, especially Dex. If Dex is any reflection of the father, then Jerome must have been one fine person, indeed.

Laurie and Michael,
My thoughts are with you during this time. Your father has left memories which should make you all proud, as he accomplished quite a lot in his lifetime.

Jerry was a very good friend of my mother's (Harriet Cooperman Hersh) for about 70 years. They kept in touch through thick and thin, and my mom always enjoyed seeing him. She passed 3 years ago, so I imagine they will meet up in heaven with Sid, Estelle, Roberta, and the other members of "Club Sandwich."
My condolences to the entire family.

Uncle Jerry,

Your appearance at out wedding last year meant so much to us. Every time I get in the car and try to paralel park, I think of you. Rob now understands why I have become so good at it. You had me count , look, and proceed. The good old tap of the newspaper to the head is always a reminder today of how you would try to bring me out of a frustrated mood. Also a good reminder to think harder, when you taught me how to drive. We will miss you, because you have touched so many lives in more ways than you know.

To Laurie, Kevin, Dex, and Stuart we give our condolences. Your father was such a fun spirited person to be around, and we only hope it continues to be the best in his afterlife.

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time, but he is finally at peace. I was just thinking that now he can go back to his Friday night dinners with the boys, although I will miss ours, that heaven better hold on for his jokes, that now he can play with the ferrets and laugh all day long. Jerry, you will always be in our hearts and missed with so much love.
