Robert Singleton Obituary


SINGLETON - Robert Raymond, 79, of Gap, PA was called Home on October 4th, 2008 following a lengthy illness. Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of Isaiah C. and Eudora (Nethaway) Singleton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara A.; his son, Robert C., both of Gap; and his brother John, of Sylvan Beach, NY. He was preceded in death by his son, Geoffrey A., and his sister, Eudora Varley. He was a good husband and father, and will be greatly missed. Bob served in the Army for four years, stationed in Japan, and was a member of the American Legion Post 94, Babylon, NY. He worked many years as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Hicksville, NY. After moving to Gap in 1969, he worked for Victor F. Weaver's, Inc. and other local companies. He retired in 1993. He enjoyed playing the piano, especially classical music. He also enjoyed good food, fine music, the outdoors, crossword puzzles, and corny jokes. Memorial services will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, 64 South Country Road, Bellport, New York, 11713 on Thursday, October 9th at 11am, with Rev. John Walker officiating. Friends may greet the family at the church on Thursday from 10am until time of service. Interment will be in the Calverton National Cemetery, Suffolk County, NY on Thursday at 1pm.
