John Hanna Obituary

HANNA - John V., age 81, a long time resident of Rockville Centre and Garden City, passed away on September 30 in Palm City Florida after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Alice and Jack Hanna. John is survived by daughters Theresa Vassoalotti, Elizabeth, Maureen and Solita and son John as well as seven grandchildren. His sister Rita Sullivan and brothers Bob and Tom also survive him, as does his former wife Solita. Two sisters, Maureen and Alice Miller, predeceased him. John graduated from Mt. Saint Mary's College and Fordham Law School. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and upon graduation from Fordham he spent three years in the Army Judge Advocate Corps attaining the rank of Captain. John had a successful career in private practice in Rockville Centre serving for a time as counsel to the Bishop. For over twenty years he was assistant New York State Bar Examiner and the New York State Attorney at the Nassau Medical Center. John spent many years as a summer resident of Rockaway Point. There will be a memorial Mass at 10:00am on Thursday, October 9, at St. Thomas More Church in Rockaway Point, Queens.

My condolences to Jack's family. I am an old friend from Breezy/Rockaway Point. We were lifeguards together many years ago and I also lived in Rockville Centre at the same time Jack did. Saw him a few times in Florida during the late 80s and early 90s. I am saddened at his passing.
