William Martin Obituary

MARTIN - William G., of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, formerly of Hauppauge and Central Islip, NY, died October 16, 2008 in Jacksonville, FL, in the arms of his wife and children. Born February 25, 1929 in Boston, Mass., he was raised in Brooklyn before relocating to Long Island, retiring to Ponte Vedra Beach. A 30+ year employee of Pan American Airlines, he was also a proud veteran of the US Navy, as well as a Coast Guard reservist (Eaton's Neck) for nearly 25 years. He was gifted with a beautiful Irish-tenor voice, and entertained many in his church choir, as well as family and friends. He was a devout Roman Catholic, and active in his church in Ponte Vedra Beach. He had a quick, self deprecating and sarcastic wit, gregarious charm, and sensitive nature. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Helen of Ponte Vedra Beach, daughters Colleen Odenthal of Stuart, FL, Maureen Parinello of Ellenton, FL, and Susan Marmion of Parkland, FL, and son William T. Martin of Bradenton, FL, all formerly of Hauppauge. Step-daughters Elizabeth Augner of Levittown, NY, Patricia Boland of Jacksonville, FL, and the late Maureen Boland; brothers Joseph Martin of Oceanside, Ca., Larry Finch of Wyoming, and the late George Martin and Harold Martin; sisters Judith Dolson, Mary Palmer, and Peggy Chapman, all of Lakeland, FL; 11 cherished grandchildren and six beautiful great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
