I was away from Long Island when Billy passed. And even though I really didn't know him as an adult, I have so many good memories of growing up with him on Deer Lane - too many to post here. I'm happy for this opportunity to finally say goodbye. I've thought about Billy, his family, wife Vicky, and kids over the years, and will continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers. Like other blocks in the D Section, Deer Lane had it's own stories, history, and traditions. Billy will always be remembered as a part of that for me.

I only recently heard about Billy. He was a dear friend and I still laugh about funny remembering our ramblings around the neighborhood. May he rest in peace. So sorry for the loss of a great person. One of my prized photos is Billy and I with Easter baskets in the mid 60's.

It is with Great Sadness that I just found out about Billy - my next door neighbor growing up. He was always amazing to me and a true hero of Deer lane. He even gave me my nickname that stuck through high school "Chopper". I will forever remember him as the young crazy athlete that could do anything!!! Vicky and the Robertson Family, the lambert's all wish you the very best. Best regards, Roger Lambert aka "Chopper" [email protected]

Hi Vicki and everyone, How cool that this Guest Book remains open, so we can all add stories and rememberances. I remember when were really young, Cherrywood School young, we would meet at the school Saturday mornings and play football. Ricky Zoerner was the biggest, strongest, toughest dude back then, and...HE ALWAYS PICKED BILLY FOR HIS TEAM! So Billy never had the pleasure of getting his bell rung by RZ! Man those were the days...MISS YOU BILL!!!!

I apologize for just now signing this book, but I had know idea. Robby as we called him in the Navy were really great friends onboard the USS Iwo Jima. I went with him one weekend to his home in New York back in 1983-84. I see he fulfilled his dream of wanting to be a New York Police Officer. He was a true friend, and I am so sorry for your loss.

Media Advisory--
On Thanksgiving morning at 9:30 AM at Duck Pond Park on Wantagh Avenue and Duck Pond Drive North in Wantagh, New York, friends and family of the late William Robertson will gather for their annual Turkey Bowl football game.
"Billy was an American patriot and a local hero. He was a devoted family man, a dedicated cop and a beloved friend with a heart of gold. This year we dedicate our annual game to his memory, " said friend, Steve Ellers of Wantagh.
Robertson, who served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves, retired as a detective from the NYPD in 2006. He passed away suddenly on October 29th at age 45. His vast association of friends and family members, now with their children, take part in the Turkey bowl every year; a ritual Robertson helped initiate in 1980.
Longtime participant, Tom Russo of Wantagh won a football autographed by many Hall of Fame players at a recent fundraiser for Robertson's four children. "We decided to designate the ball as the MVP trophy for the game. We're going to call it "The Robby". The winner will hold it for a year and then return it for the following year's game, he said.

At this late date, I wish to underscore all of the warm thoughts and words dedicated to Billy Robertson on this Guest Book. Billy was one of a kind. Family man, patriot, friend, colleague.... and more. And in every sense, Billy was a shining example. I am honored to have known him. I admired him as a man as much as I loved him as a friend. He was such a dear friend to my wife as well and my kids saw him as an Uncle. To say he'll be missed is an understatement. Rest in Peace, Robby. Always in our hearts, thoughts and prayers-- as will be those you left behind.
For Vicki and the kids, I will post two more entries in this guest book. One will be the Media Advisory that we sent to Newsday around Thanksgiving. They were kind enough to cover our 2009 Annual Turkey Bowl we played in Billy's honor. The second will be the notice we sent out for the Roberston's Children's Fund. Each says much about the man we loved and lost all too soon.

It has been 2 weeks since this tragedy, and I thought I could leave my entry without completely falling apart, I was wrong. There are so many memories of a great man that I knew since I was 6 years old. Billy Robertson always carried himself like no other man I have known, always a gentleman that led by example. I have 3 children, 1 of which is my son Billy. I showed him all the nice things that were written about Billy Robertson, and told him, "this is how you have to lead your life, this man was the perfect example". Billy you will always be missed, and never forgotten.

Dear Vicki,
To say that this news has sadden me so doesn't even touch how deeply sorry that I am for such a great loss. I knew Billy since my first day in kindergarden back at Cherrywood & even though we have lost touch along the way, he will always be a part of who I became today. His laughter & mischief will never be forgotten & know in your heart that you "are" the love of his life & he is with you always, even though you can't physically see him , he is there watching over you & the children. He will be truly missed... rest easy my dear friend.. heaven has received a terrific angel.
Be well Vicki , you will be in my thoughts & prayers.

To the Robertson Family,
There just aren't the right words to express the sadness I feel your family and all those who knew Billy. I had the honor of working with Billy in the 109 Pct. years ago. I am not sure if it was our connection to Levittown or people we knew in common, but we became friends. Although our careers took different turns. no matter when I would run into Billy, it seemed as though time stood still. Whether it was at reunion parties, Christmas parties or on the pier on St. Patrick's Day, we would have a great time and share so many laughs. I would ask about his family and he would do the same. He loved his family!! I have never met such a man who was so full of life and whose heart was so big. He was so genuine. The world is a sadder place today because a true gentle man has been taken from all who knew him much too soon. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Vicky & Family,
Bill was a great guy, I was shocked and sad to hear the news of his passing.
He was an unforgetable part of all of our years through school.
The ability to be strong yet still put others at ease around him was a quality I'll always remember and respect about Bill.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dearest Vicki, Paul, Kevin, Katie & Kristin,
We are so devasted by Billy's untimely passing and we want to be there to put our arms around you to show our support. There are so many memories, but the one I credit Billy the most with is my meeting you. I met Billy in 7th Grade in Mrs. Black's art class. He was a fabulous person who made you feel comfortable immediately and could always make you laugh with a wisecrack. From that time on, we were fast friends and because of him I made so many other lifelong friends. I will never forget him saying "come out, hang out" and bicycle riding with you, Vicki, every weekend (Rain or shine, hot or cold)to Seaman Neck Park to watch him play football. There are so many memories of fun, crazy times that I hold in my heart. They will never be forgotten! We hold you all in our hearts and prayers as you grieve this horrible loss. He will be dearly missed by everyone who's life he touched...there were many! Rest peacefully my friend. Heaven is certainly richer from now on. We love you, Lori, Dave and Daniel

Vicki & Family,
I do not have the words to express how I feel. I have not even had the courage to call you because I am speachless. Billy was and will always be my family and although I have been apart from you for years, you are always in my thougths and will continue to be. He was someone who I always looked forward to seeing when I come home. I will always remember how much he made me laugh and how he was always looking out for my me like a brother would. Like I say "He was my brother from another mother". I will truly remember the laughs and the cry's our families have shared over the years! I loved Billy and will truly miss him! From my heart to yours, be strong! Love GIGI

I was very sad to hear about the untimely death of Billy.
I did not know Billy all that well. Fortunately I was in a few classes with him in high school. The most memorable was when we were assigned against our will to a home economics class (!!), and, for a miserable semester, we, mostly he, clowned around and completed the assignments knowing that we could not get our HS diploma's unless we finished. You can imagine that Billy left his classmates laughing on the floor in that kind of environment.
Upon hearing about this unfortunate news, I thought about the many hundreds of people who have come into my life for a short time, and, for whatever reason, moved out of my life just as quickly. Most of them have been long since forgotten, barely registering an imprint in my consciousness. Billy was NOT one of them. It has been some 25 years since I last saw Billy yet I remember his spirit and sense of humor quite clearly.
I hope that his friends and family that knew him well are comforted by the fact that he had such a positive impact even on people who met him only in passing circumstances, and that his spirit will live on through those lives that he touched.
