My dad passed away on November 3, 2007, at the age of 91, from the result of a car accident. The crash did not kill him,
the trauma of the accident caused him to retain liquids and he died three weeks after the complications. Thank God, I
and all of my family were able to talk to him the day after the accident. In fact, he sounded so fine and I thought he was
going to pull through. Two days later we went into ICU. I never talked to him again.
My brother, Bill was there with him during his hospital stay. He was able to hold his hand and watch him as he lost
his last battle. I am thankful to my brother, and thou my dad wanted him to leave, I know in dad's heart, he was happy
Bill was there.
William Jacob Powers, was born in Brooklyn, NYC. July 1916. He meet, dated and married, Agnes Hesselblad in the 1930s.
I was born in 1943, my sister Karen, was born in 1946, my brother Bill in 1953. We had the ideal wonderful life. I thank
him for all he did and will always miss those days.
At the start of WWII my father volunteered for submarine duty. However the NYC Fire Department, hired him and he was
assigned duty in NYC incase the Germanys bombed the city. He retired after 20 some odd years later and went on to a second
career in Construction Management. After another 20 some odd years he retired for good. After the untimely death of my
sister from cancer my parents relocated to Tampa, Florida. There they enjoyed a great life with many of their old friends
who had retired and relocated earlier. Our family was blessed to have been able to have visited them often. I again will
always remember the good time.
My mother passed away a couple of years ago. My father loved her deeply and handled her passing as a good fireman would.
He is and will always remain a trooper to me.
The following are not my words but I keep them with me.
Should we know where and when we were to meet again,
we would be more kinder when we say good-bye.
I am flying back to NY tomorrow for his funeral.
Dad, Lee Anne, Tim, Stephanie, Ken, Janine and I will always love you and keep you close to our heart.
God Bless you........
Your loving son,
Tim
