In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dana, my friend.

Gentle spirit, gentle soul, gentle man.

We were all blessed to have known you.

I will miss you.

Many years ago I felt like Dana was my mother's third son. My brother John had convinced him to move to L.I. and join him in his restaurant venture(Canterbury Ales and later Able Conklins). Dana became a part of our family; Mom included him in all of our family events;not only because he and my brother were best friends, but because Dana brought so much warmth and fun with him. He was also a favorite of the young children present. After dessert I'd find Mom and Dana talking for hours. I recall one night when Dana mentioned that his car "died." Mom's response was to give him the keys and title to her blue GTO convertable which he had liked. Nothing was "too good" for her and our dear friend.Mom always said that he seemed like an "old soul" in a young body;I think many people thought that.

Too many years and too many stories. I will miss Dana very much. He was more than my boss, he was a great friend. I had the pleasure of working with him in both Canterburys and Abels. We shared a love for animals. I will miss Dana. All my love, Frannie
