Dear Hap and all the gang,
I was in Purcelleville this summer and heard about James. When I got home I went to the internet and was amazed at his many accomplishments in film and with those who looked to his guidance.
My mind went back to the time we lost my brother Tim and how we all felt. I am a fan of artsy film too and had seen some of the films James worked on though I had not realized it.
Though I had not seen James in many years it is clear from what I had read that God had touched him in a special way and that he in turn touched many others in the same way. I wish you many long and happy memories of his courage, kindness, knowledge and wisdom.
Come visit in the South! With my love and prayers for all of you and those who loved James!

Dear Sara, How happy I am that you have such wonderful memories of James. He was so looking forward to seeing the Surrealist project and I know that he is smiling right now knowing that you are going to bring it with you to show him. He was so proud of being your Godfather and loved you very much.

James-
I still miss you so much. There isn't a single day I go through without thinking of you. I wish you were still here. I still remember so many fun times that we had together.
Remember the song we wrote about the berries we found on the side of the road upstate? Or talking about whatever came to mind at Grandma's house? I was the only girl, and the only person under 14, who was there while you and your brothers and I talked about whatever we thought of next, whether it was politics, movies, or even just a word we thought sounded funny.
These memories are nice, but they don't fill the hole in my heart that you left when you died. I wish so much that I could go to your memorial service, but it's the same day as our Earth Science Regents Exam, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like it that much if I failed Earth Science to come say goodye. I'll still visit your plot at the cemetery whenever I can. It's really pretty, you know, almost poetry-inspiring. You'd like it.
Your godkid and niece,
Sara
PS. I got a 260 out of 250 on that Surrealist project. I know you wanted to know how that went. When it's my turn to leave this earth, I'll be sure to bring it on a flash drive, so you can see it. And I loved "To Kill a Mockingbird." You always knew just what I'd like to read.
PPS. Jenna and Timo miss you too. I told them all about you, and they wish they'd met you. How about that? Pretty cool, huh?

Dear Aunt Gladys,
There are no words to express how sorry I am. Jamie and I were the same age and were great buddies when we were kids. Even now I still think of him as "Jamie" - rather than James - and I'm thankful that I got to share part of his life. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, the family, and Terry. With love, Donna
